Nearly 3 years of strange symptoms after unprotected sex and no diagnosis

Hello,

I got drunk one night 2 and a half years ago and stupidly had unprotected sex.

I noticed a bit of a burning sensation in my penis shortly after and clear discharge at the tip of my penis the next day.

I did an at home std test which came back negative, but the symptoms continued. I've also visited a sexual health clinic a few months back to validate the at home test, but they also came back saying I was all clear.

About a year ago then developed hip pain, burning eyes and ankle pain. I saw a rheumatologist and he diagnosed me with reactive arthritis.

Here is a list of all my symptoms and all the tests and specialist I have seen... I'm getting desperate now as I feel like I'm getting nowhere with the constant visits to the Drs :

For the past 2.5 years:

Discomfort when passing urine (after sex, can last for a few days)

Unusual smelling urine

Fishy smell around penis even after washing

Burning pain after ejaculation

Instances of blood in semen

Have noticed clear discharge at tip of penis

Frequent upset stomach

Tiredness

Frequent sore throats

For around a year:

Hip pain

Eyes can become red and painful

Ankle pain

Cracking joints

Symptoms over the past few months:

Tingling in arms and legs (frequent pins and needles)

Hip pain on the left side has significantly reduced.

Intense hip pain on right side has developed.

Tests I’ve had:

Seen rheumatologist - diagnosed with reactive arthritis (the cause for this has never been diagnosed)

Seen Ophthalmologists - told I had dry eyes and to use drops.

Seen a neurologist and had an MRI + CT scan: came back clear with no further action

Had nerve conduction study: all normal

Had an STD check : told all clear

Numerous blood / urine and stool tests : low infection markers. Told low vitamin d levels, been taking supplements.

Had prostate examination. Told all fine.

Had an ultrasound of kidneys and bladder: all clear

I'm experiencing similar symptoms to you, mine started out as a uti. i had stress event at work and that same night i had uti symptoms appear. This symptoms turned into testicular/penile pain and reactive arthritis and then 6 weeks of migraines/fatigue. At this point i started panicking as no doctor could culture anything no stds, herpes, cmv, ebv and i then jumped to the hopefully incorrect conclusion i had a rare strain of hiv. After more testing and seeing urologist, rheumatologist and 3 ID doctors I'm still no closer in resolving this mystery disease... I honestly feel for you, I lost a relationship over this and was put into mental hospital for health anxiety for a month. I currently don't have any other suggestions on how to cope as now I am just taking day by day hoping one day it'll disappear myself. Hang in there... I read alot on these forums with others experiencing problems 3 years ago but no one has updated how they are doing or what worked to find/eliminate reactive arthritis?

    this could be undetected Chlamydia

What tests? Are you sure they are/were 100% reliable?

The symptoms are much more important than stupid test results.

Only doctors need to see positive tests to give you the pills, but my life experience with chronic prostatitis (triggered by chlamydia) and with lyme disease are different.

Not every test is reliable, believe me and trust the symptoms.

I have no idea , i simply suggested he should test privately to be sure .

The nhs is great but there is no harm in having a 2nd opinion .

Its a site where people seek help , btw , my local gum clinic have sent my oral swabs away to get tested to get to the bottom of my thrush .

They said they will ask for " cultures " is this where they check for the bacteria and hopefully put an end to my oral thrus with the correct treatment ?

Hope you can help with this kim .

the swabs will just determine if it is thrush or not an they will treat it probably with nystatin or fluconazole

u would need to have blood tests done to see u u have a virus thats comprimised your immune system if there normal then it may just be one of them things and no cause for

if it comes back yeast again they will probably try a different medication if u have had previous blood tests an alls come back ok then theres not underlying cause probably one of them things
