I'm having the same problem with my leg too. I was told that my ligaments were loose and I will be having revision surgery in a couple of weeks. Im 6mos post op. The plastic piece between the two knee replacement parts is not thick enough to tighten the ligaments. I pray that you feel better.

Do you do your exercises. I know I was not and my knee was worse but I started doing them more and it feels a little better except every time I get out the car or stand up my knee clicks and hurts. Do you have that happening? I do not know if it is the cold weather I some times wish I did not have it done but I was in so much pain before surgery. I wish you the best of luck. mine hurts on the inside. i guess everyone is different. I would go back to the Orth and ask them why all the pain.

IT= ileotibial band is fascia runs outside portion of hip to knee.
(ITBS symptoms range from a stinging sensation just above the knee joint, to swelling or thickening of the tissue in the area where the band moves over the femur. The stinging sensation just above the knee joint is felt on the outside of the knee or along the entire length of the iliotibial band. Pain may not occur immediately during activity, but may intensify over time. Pain is most commonly felt when the foot strikes the ground, and pain might persist after activity. Pain may also be present above and below the knee, where the ITB attaches to the tibia. It will also hurt if you twist your knee to turn a corner.-Wikipedia)
My friend's IT band messed up and its still giving her trouble after 8 weeks. She went ahead with her OTHER knee replacement anyway and, fortunately, that went well.
I encourage you to google knee anatomy. It is mind boggling how many tendons, ligaments etc that run thru the area. There is an area on the inside, below knee on top of tibia that actually is the connection point of THREE muscles/tendons. (Muscles attach to tendons which attach to bone.)
It is no wonder why our knees are causing so much pain! The more strengthening i do the less its hurting but the toothache feeling is common but tolerable. When youve been wo pain and get pain, a physical therapist can ID the cause better than a doc (my experience)
This is why graduated and consistent exercises are so important. It takes a LOT to stabilize the knee. Without stabilization, all kind of pinching, pulling, pain goes on. I've found by cutting down on length of time exercising but more frequent, has made a difference. Thats why i walk .5miles instead of 1m. Also, it i dont do it 2x a day because i "traded" it for other exercise, I'm ok w that. So while I'm off work, i try to do something every 2 -3hrs for 15-20 min. Like 5-10min on bike with 10 min of stretches. Its really hard amongst all the other stuff to run a house BUT, i dont want to be a cripple and have gone thru this to be worse than i was. So i do the work. I took a whole day off to rest once when it really hurt , and it helped but i lost stretch. There are SO many tradeoffs and we know people are different. So we just do the best we can.

Hi Janice,
I'm 8 weeks post op. My knee is still a bit sore. I'm on 2 crutches permanently. A long storey but it happened doing exercises after 2nd HIP replacement. Nothing to do with TKR. Whats worrying me is that my other leg is getting sore, down the side of the leg. Its also making a crunching sound. My other one was bone on bone and its exactly the same noise. I'm trying to convince myself its the cold weather or its compensating for the other leg. but I'm worrying as well

I'm so glad you posted this. I'm 6 months out from my TKR and I have a similar issue. I live in a very cold place with lots of snow right now so I've just chalked it up to the cold weather making my knee ache. The mornings are the worst. I need to start back up with my knee exercises and see if that helps.

Hi Janice, I had my tkr aug 8 and im to had to give up my job after 33 yrs. I needed one more year. The thanks u get. My problem has been very swollen and had to walk without my can and I 2 can't stand long. I went to the university of Michigan and seen a specious. My problem was that I had high Xpectations I was told that I need to let my body heal everybody feels differently and I'm a slow healer. I needed to go back 2 physical therapy. And that I needed to return to work when I felt I could. My superintendent don't agree and they posted my job. So now I'm going to let my body heal let my body get stronger and go one day at a time. I hope you start to feel better and let your body rest to heal. I'm 60 years old. The things I used to do I can't do now. I never would have had the surgery if I knew what I know now

It's a shame that doctors minimize our pain. I had surgery July 12, 2016 and they tried to make light of my pain but I didn't let them. I told them that I shouldn't still be in so much pain and stiffness shouldn't be. They even had the nerve to allow a physician assistant to see me. I asked questions he couldn't answer so the doctor had to see me. They're re doing the surgery because I kept on them. My advice to you, don't settle for the "it will take time " clich'e. Complain until they really hear you. I have had knee surgery before so I knew after four months post op that I shouldn't be as sore. Yes I am older (50 1/2) but I knew something was wrong because how I felt wasn't lining up with what others were telling me. I knew from this forum that each one heals differently but my situation was not good and I told my doctor that. And you should too. Don't minimize your pain. Majority of the time we're not in excruciating pain when we visit the doctor so when you're sitting there and they ask on a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst what's your pain levels. I'm a 6 or higher, I can't sleep, my leg hurts all the time doc you got to do something. Get what I'm saying?

I complained so much that the doctor finally did a thorough examination on my knee replacement and found out that The ligament he fixed was still loose and the plastic between the two knee replacement prosthetics wasn't thick enough. Hence the need for revision surgery. I'm a veteran and they're taking pretty good care of me for the most part. They finally listened to me and they didn't blow me off. I pray for you to get the best results.
