Needing help regarding PROLAPSE

Hello Ladies,

I am suffering greatly but need the right surgery.

I have chronic back pain 10 year on waking.

Get 4-5 hrs sleep.

Recent CT spec showed degeneration of lower discs.

I also have prolapse in all 3 compartments.

I am 58 yrs old.

I realise that I need to try a pessary prior to surgery.

Is there anyone who has a pessary permanently instead of surgery.

I have discomfort 24/7.

However my early morning back pain has masked this prolapse and the Uro gynaecologist was not convinced I had true prolapse. I have had a 3 year nightmare. First seeing colorectal surgeons for haemorrhoids indicating banding and possible H.A.L.O  op without consideration for prolapse.

I do not have haemorrhoidal symptoms, bleeding, itching etc however there is definitly enough haemorrhoidal tissue to band. I have much discomfort in my anus.

After private opinion have been told that womb and bladder are right down.

Luckily at present leakage is slight, can empty my bowels however not always completely.

I may need a combined procedure.

I have realised that every gynaecologist has different skills for their dedicated op.

Has anyone had experience with Sacrolopexy?

Has anyone had experience with Ventral Rectopexy?

Does anyone have degeneration of lower spine as well as prolapse?

With many prolapse operations the Sacrum is used for support.

I am worried this will put too much strain on my degenerative discs.

Has anyone had the prolapse surgery through the vagina?

My womb will probably be taken out for this procedure.

Does anyone know how the bladder and bowel will be supported.

Because of my back pain I may end uo with pessaries for life.

Anyone else just using pessaries on a permanent basis?

Sandra

Hi Sandra, I can only comment on the section of your post that I know about. I had a hysterectomy and vaginal repair a few weeks ago. I had keyhole and vaginal surgery.. The tissue that is already there is stretched to help support the bladder (in my case).  I took Ovestin cream for quite a few months prior to surgery to improve the quality of the tissue. Mine was very thin and fragile due mainly to age. Hopefully you will hear from others who can address the rest of your question. Kind regards.

Hi Sandra, I am so sorry to hear your story. That has got to be the worst nightmare. What country are you in? What is your back surgeon saying? How bad is the degeneration & what is their plans. The fact that you have prolapsed surely means extra weight on the muscles & therefore discs. I am sure some of my back ache will resolve itself now. There is quite a lot on the web showing you graphically how all these procedures work, technically anyway. I don't know anything about these pexy procedures but I would have thought your haemorrhoids are the least of your problems, they don't seem to bother you that much. It's amazing how each speciality only sees their own area of expertise. How did your gynaecologist not identify a prolapse? Has it just recently extended.

I have had my uterus removed (less weight pulling now) & a posterior repair, quite straight forward & no extra pulling on my spine. I wish I could answer your questions. Sorry. Good luck

      Hello Sue,

      I live in UK.

I have had chronic back pain for 10 years early morning eg 5 am.

I have live with this not knowing if it was from some benign pelvic lesions or from my lower discs.

Finally I have closure and a CT SPEC showed a hot spot left hand side L4/5 where I get my original pain.

My lesions/tumours 10 years ago were found accidentally with all this pain and specilaists at that time thought this may be the cause of my pain.  10 years later now it is proven that my lower discs are causing the pain and hopefully the pelvic lesions are a red herring.

Anal pressue started 5 years ago.

I appear to have haemorrhoidal symptoms skin tags and much much pressue in my anus giving me incredible discomfort.

I now albeit rather late believe this is purely prolapse from my womb bladder and lining of my bowel which is pressing on my haemorrhoids veins.  So I am getting haemorrhoidal symptoms which I believe to be from prolapse.  There is no docotor out there that confirms this this is my opinion. The private colorectal doctors fail to send you for gynaecological opinion which is a disgrace.

2 years ago i did see a uro-gynaecologist who said he was not conviced that I had true prolapse because of my early morning pain.

Prolapse pain would be worse at the end of the day.

However because the disciplines do not come together in the UK, it was me the patient who asked to see a back specialist. Finally not MRI but CT SPEC showed up this hot spot left hand side L4/5.

In fact the MRI did nort show this up.

i finally have closure on my back pain which is coming from my degeneration of my discs, not my lesions, not my prolapse.

Well my womb down may be not helping my back pain.

Because of my worry with my pelvic lesions which are stable, I still was concerned I had a lingering cancer which was not showing up in my blood. Last year I had a laparoscopy to rule out any spread of cancer in my stomach, all was clear.

5 weeks ago I had a bone marrow biopsy iliac crest at the back right hand side. Unfortunatey I have had a terrible reaction from this and have extrem nerve pain in my right thing and in my back. It is unfortunately because the initial procedure was fine. This was to rule out a cancer as I felt all this discomfort must be a cancer and all these specilaisets have go all this wrong.

      The test was negative.

I had a lumber MRI yesterday as the pain in my thigh is intoloerable.

I am struggling to bed my legs to go to the toilet, I have never expreienced such pain. I went to A and E. as I thought this may be a DVT a blood clot which can be serious. The dopler was negative, thank G-d.

Today I see the back surgeon to get the result of my MRI.

I believe the bone biopsy stirred all this up, and that my womb being so far down is pressing also on my nerves too.

I would like to hear form someone who has had a sacropexy, with mesh to hold the womb and bladder up.

I beleive that having a vaginal hystorectocmy can leave you later with a bladder which falls down and further surgery is needed.

However I have also researched that mesh has caused many problems.

Any one who has had the surgeries please advise.

      Thank you,

      Sandra

    Hello Sandra

I am 63 years old and I have had a prolapse bladder for almost 10 years. I don't feel any pain from it, just it being a nuisence as it wants to fall out of my private area all the time and rub against my panty. I am not a candidate for an operation or a pessary and I wouldn't want it anyway. I have talked to many people who have had these operations and a lot of them are sorry they had it. Some had problem with the mesh, others said the bladder fell back down after a few years of surgery. I also have hemorroids and the best way to handle them is to bathe in epson salt baths or sitz baths, once a day. I found that pushing or constipation causes hemorroids to buldge and be more painful. A good fiber diet that makes your stools soft helps prevent the hemorroids from getting bigger because you don't have to push anymore if you have normal bowel movements. Don't know if this will help you at all but I hope you think very hard before you have any surgerys.
