Starting a new post because I think I have read every single post on this forum crying for a week while waiting for my results. One thing I learned is that most people never share their results. My story:
I'm 45 and recently divorced. I have had unprotected sex in the past year. I also had an IUD put 10 months ago. Since then I've had lighter, but longer periods. Then I recently had an odor that wasn't normal. In the mean time, I had my period and wore pads for 10 days straight. Developed a bump on my perineum. 2 days later it had a white head. The next day it popped on it's own. Didn't think anything of it. Went to the doctor for the smell and she noticed the sore and said she had to swab it for herpes even though it didn't look typical. After being on this forum and crying for a week straight, I realized that nothing is typical. This virus comes in many forms.
First test came back positive for Bacterial Vaginosis. I've learned that you can sometimes have BV with herpes. More crying and worrying. Finally received my other results and I am negative for HSV1 and negative for HSV2 done via swab on open sore. I'm still very emotional about this entire situation.
I plan on speaking about this to everyone I know, especially my kids. This is a virus that is not talked about enough. I can't tell you how many times I've read that "I was tested for all STDs". Well herpes is not part of a regular test and it can take over 3 months to show up in a blood test. This is not right. I've also learned its not the end of the world, because it's not life threatening. It's a skin virus and it has a bad reputation because it's transmitted via sex. We also need to teach the younger ones about oral transmission from HSV1, The one thing I've learned about teenagers is that they think they are safe from pregnancy because they only had oral sex. I've had cold sores since I was 5 and was always careful if I felt an outbreak. Most teens/people aren't OCD like me and don't think like me.
Here are my pics in the order of start to finish. When the pimple popped, it did look like a deep sore. Hope they help someone. Please note that some outbreaks can be 1 sore which is why I have been worried.
