Nerve damage

Posted , 9 users are following.

I realise I sound like a moaning Minnie but honest to god I'm so fed up. So back to the Drs today, the latest lot of anti b's haven't helped in reducing the amount of pain I'm in and my GP is now querying if I have nerve damage. I've got to go back tomorrow to be assessed ??

Anyone else experienced nerve damage after a posterior repair? Tried googling it and not found much information, no idea if it is that whether they can treat it?

Hi. Where about a is your pain and what kind of pain. How many wks post op.

I'm 11 wks and I keep getting crampy pains and tugging pains above my pubic bone but also find it very tender to wipe after a wee but no apparent inflammation. No idea if this is similar to yours. But I'm fed up too. Every time I try to do something to build myself up for going back to work in 2wks I end up in pain later on and next day.

Hope you get some answers at Drs. X

    Are you getting burning pain?

    Google pudendal nerve.

That is my problem, and made much worse by posterior surgery.

I put it down to my legs being in the lithotomy position in stirrups, made an already unstable back, with coccyx pain and vulvadenia a lot more painful, it never goes, just gets worse as the day goes on.

    This could be your problem.

It's really hard getting answers with nerve pain.

What is vulvademia? No I dont get burning. It's just tender to touch. Don't think I have prudental nerve problems. It's doesn't sound same. Maybe mine is just slow recovery but at 11wks I thought vulva area wouldn't be so tender. Haven't attempted intercourse as was advises to wait another 2 weeks when I went for post op appt. as I was still raw at top of vag but my pain is preventing me from even trying.

Was at GP this week and she just said it takes time. But how much longer is what I want to know! X

I'm at 12 weeks, when matron was here she said posterior repair was painful for much longer than anterior. I've found it slow, still feel swollen, and tender, and hot down there.

She said it took her around a year to get completely back to normal, I think it's the way the stitches come right down to perineum.

      Vulvadenia is vulval pain.

Hi Lisa like u I had nerve damage after a /p repair I spent months in pain and finally saw a locum Dr who asked me to try gabapentin, from day one the pain was completely manageable. finally after six months I managed to cut them down and stop altogether. Ask ur gp to let u try them. Good luck regards Jan.

oh I'm taking gabapentin for nerve pain, but they were making me constipated so only take a low dose, but if it's unbearable I just up it for that day.

Did the dr say which nerve was damaged,I'm really hoping this will ease off.

    Hi Lisa

You could ask your GP to refer you to a Physiotherapist, preferably one that specialised in pelvic pain. There are some brilliant ones in the NHS, but not all GPs know about them. It could be your pain is as a result of your operation and you need to release tight muscles, this is common after pelvic operations. A Physio will also be able to test for nerve damage using a probe and biofeedback.

Nerves can grow back, it’s called resprouting, and is successful using NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) however, you need to address the pain first. Pain would indicate that your muscles are in spasm, so the blood does not flow in and out of the muscles as it should, and blood brings oxygen which feeds and keep the muscles healthy. If you are in pain everything locks up and it just becomes a vicious circle.

Have a word with the GP and see if you can get help with addressing the pain first, and I would recommend not painkillers if you can helps it (only short term), because they bung you up, and constipation adversely affects the pelvic floor.

Have a look a pelvic floor relaxation techniques, and myofascial release massage - this could be ideal for you and you can do it at home, you'll be amazed.

    Hope this helps

So i saw my dr and I was given gabepentin. She thinks it's my static nerve that's causing the pain and it's either due to inflammation or nerve damage and I need to see how I go, if it it doesn't improve I'm to have an mri scan.

three days later and other than reducing the tingly sensation in my leg it's done nothing for the pain. I'd say I have high pain threshold but I'm not sure how much more I can take, it's relentless. I've been in pain constantly since my op in one way or another, it's really getting me down ??

It really does sound like your sciatic nerve, the route that it's taking down your leg, gabapentin does dumb down the pain, but slows your whole system down, it might be wise to take lactulose if you're not already taking it.

Neuropathic pain is unrelenting, awful, I have had it for a long time,,hopefully your's will be temporary.x.
