Hi all, I am new to this but was after some advice. I am 34 and have 2 children, since my 2nd I have been having terrible troubles with periods and contraceptives, and now I basically can't have anything hormonal. My problem is that if I am not on contraceptives my periods are hell, I literally get through a super pad within an hour for 2 days a month and then I have long 7-10 day periods with spotting in between. My GP has finally agreed to refer me she wants me to go for endometrial ablation, I want Hysterctomy but I can't have either until I choose a hospital for my referral. How to I do this, I have quite a few close to me but how do I know which is the best to choose?

Am in Wiltshire so if anyone has any personal experience of this area info would be grately recieved.

I would say check out the consultants at the hospital and find out who would do the surgery. You can just google them and find out info about them, like do they do private work. I was not given a choice so not sure what other advice i can give, hopefully someone will b from wiltshire to give you a recomendation.

I had an ablation and I am now recovering from full hysterectomy. The reason is simple, ablation causes severe scaring in your womb and although it's great to start with, no bleeding, after a couple of years the bleeding slowly comes back as the enfometrium grows back. If you are over 40 that's fine as once you hit the menopause bleeding eventually stops completely. If like me ( I was 39!) I hadn't gone through the menopause, it started what they call a failed endometrium ablation, this caused SEVERE contractions, worse than childbirth lasting 6 hours everyday fir about 7 days. This is because your cervix fuses shut and the the blood in your womb cannot get released (haematometra) which then causes your womb to contract (hence contractions) it's totally your decision but being so young I would imagine it would fail. Do research before your decide as I wish I d just had hysterectomy 10 years ago now and be done with it

Hi Anna, I had an ablation at 35yrs.old and haven't had a period since, and had the same issues as you did, and it was wonderful. I'm now 44 years old (no children) since of my life long female problems. BUT! a BIG BUT! I had a vagional hysterectomy 4 weeks ago due to an enlarged uterus, and when they removed it, it was full of cancer! My doctor said that heavy bleeding would have been the first sign, and it went undetected for years. My only symptoms were lower back and right side pain. Luckly I have a very rare form of slow growing cancer called Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma. My OB/GYN said that he will change the way he monitors his patients who've had ablations because of my case. While I'm happy I had the ablation, this out come could have been quite different. They caught my cancer in early stages! smile Please discuss having regular vagional ultrasounds post ablation if you decide to do that, that's the only way to monitor the size of your uterus and cysts that can form. I'm scheduled for my 3rd surgery in 3 months with an Ocologist to remove my fallopian tubes and overies May 8th. Very scary! Please listen to your body and insist on regular ultrsounds . I will say that the vagional hysterectomy was very easy for me as I said I'm in the 4th week post op, and feeling great! Good luck to you whatever decision that you make. I wish you some relief because I've been there, and I know how it effects you every month. Take Care, Erin

Erin, I'm in a similar boat to you and glad to find someone in my age group and situation who I can relate to. I had a myomectomy end of February and on biopsy they discovered ess. I was shattered as I thought my issues were finally over with myomectomy. Anyway, I have my first appointment next week with oncologist. Strange I had to wait so long since surgery but maybe they figured since tumour out I had time? Who knows. And hopefully no metastasis as who knows how long I've had this. I know I'm not prepared for a hysterectomy. But, there are no options and this is the best chance at beating this. Good luck with your surgery. Recovery from my myomectomy was pretty easy so hopefully round 2 with hysterectomy will be as smooth. I'm more nervous about the after effects that it will bring on. Anna, I hope all goes well too and that your situation gets resolved.

WOW I'm amased I have not been able to find anyone with ESS! I would love to chat with you. Do you know if it's in early stages? And the recommened therapy? Sorry I hate that I'm excited to find you, as I'm told this is a RARE cancer. I live in the US-Virginia and my oncologists is suggestioning to remove the fallopian tubes and the ovaries are up to me, wit only hormone treatments.  I would hate myself in 5 yrs (or whenever) if I developed Ovarian Cancer. Are you removing everything? Please keep in touch! Erin
