Hi everyone, I have just been diagnosed with diverticulum, after almost a year of suffering and going to the doctor, until eventually i started passing blood then i was referred to the hospital, microscope where the sun don't shine, and then the following week had a barium anema, now waiting to go back and talk with the Doctor, but i love nuts and seeds and eat loads so now after reading about it, looks like im gonna have to give it up,. I do get a lot of lower back pain,?? is that to do with it?? also i just can't seem to empty myself properly ?? also I think after all the pushing and straining my lower region is a little swollen which does not help matters, and after reading the things about having an operation, i'm hoping that i can control it with diet ? is that possible, ???? so many questions, and so good to have a forum to talk to people,

Theresa

You may have to give up the higher fibre foods for a while (to give your Colon a rest) but then you can go back on them. Yes this may be enough so that you dont need surgery smile

However it depends. If there are complications, worst case you may need a / the section of Colon removing. It depends how bad it is for you smile

Yes backpain can be associated with the Colon smile

See what the doctor says when you go,, theyll probably start you off on some antibiotics if its not a complicated case smile

thankyou so much for your replies. i am still taking a mild laxative every night I know maybe I shouldnt but I really need to because otherwise its so painful, and this seems to just keep me ticking over nicely.

Also I am getting a sticking feeling under my chest which gets quite uncomfortable, is that normal? I cannot keep a bra on, it has to come off on the evening, much to my husbands amusement ! !

It could be youre getting a new diverticula in / near the transverse colon. If (when) it becomes agony (diverticulitis) youll know for sure smile

I noticed that you cannot stand having a bra in the evenings. I dont think this has anything to do with diverticular disease. I had this symptom for years but it finally diappeared after having my gall bladder removed.

I had been suffering with gall stones for many years without knowing it.
