New to Fluoxtine

Day 3 on Fluoxetine, I've been feeling very tired, with an extremely sore neck and headache.

All I can do is lay in bed. I usually go to sleep around 10:30pm and wake up at 6:30am, feeling like I haven't slept for days.

Am I thinking to much or are these side effects? I am very anxious to carry on taking these, as I'm scared they'll get worse. Feeling mentally exhausted is one thing, but adding physical exhaustion will be on a next level.

I have currently been signed off now for two months, but only just plucked up the courage to start taking them.

Does anyone now how long the side effects last for?

sad

    Hi Abbie

I've been on them for 9 weeks now, I felt tired from day 3 to about day 7 then that seemed to improve. My GP said that the first 2 weeks could be difficult but to persevere if not too bad and it would take 4-6 weeks for them to really start taking effect.

Try to keep taking them unless you find the the effects that bad.

It's strange and hard to tell, but i know now that i'm starting to feel better.  different.  less tense.  less prone to anxiety attacks.  it was pretty sudden after the six week period.  i tend to look for the negative in things, so rather than saying the medecine is working, i'm trying to find other reasons for not feeling so anxious.  but maybe it really is working!

    Hi Abbie,

I have been on several Anti-D's since March. Sertraline for one week, Awful. Citalopram for 7 Weeks - I was zombified. Trazodone made me hallucinate! The doc then finally put me on fluoextine a week ago and boy what a difference. Please give it more time, 6-8 weeks for the full effect as others have said but you will be glad you perservered. Fluoexetine is one of the best anti anxiety/depression meds out there it worked for me a year ago but due to the temporary anxiety increase in the first few weeks my doctor was reluctant to put me on it. Once your over the initial side effects you will feel more 'normal' again.

If you need any questions answering or any support were all here, Best of luck!

    Laura xx
