Hi,

I started taking Citalopram only 2 days ago, I read the leaflet from front to back and expected to experience some side effects in a week or so but things seem to have kicked off straight away - is this something everyone else experienced too?

The back of my tongue felt like it was twice its size last night, I have been wide awake and kind of jittery, unable to concentrate or focus (total disaster as i'm at uni and have deadlines), I feel the need to crunch down on my teeth and I have a bit of a headache and to be honest could quite easily run round my licing room doing laps for no reason - and that sooooo isn't me.

I did expect some side effects but not so many and definately not after 2 days of taking the pills.

I really need this medication, or some medication to get me through this really difficult time so don't want to throw in the towel and go back to my GP to switch to something else if this is something you guys have all been through? Did everyone else get side effects so quickly? Anyone else get the tongue thing? And how long before most of them die away?

I'm a little worried also becuase I live alone at the moment and don't want anything really bizzare to happen as no-one will know. I know I sound like a drama queen but I'm just super shocked at feeling this bizzare after only 2 days.

Thanks so so much if you read this and reply.

    Hey,

I was exactly the same, almost straight away my side effects kicked in, was really sick too!!

I was ok after a week or so, occasional sicky feeling but it soon passed.

I was advised to take tablets before bed but that didnt work for me, got all gittery & restless, so now i take them in the morming & for the past 3 months ive bin ok.

I do still feel sick sometimes but that is when i have a really dark day so def more to do with stress i think than the tablets.

Keep smiling & let me know how you get onsmile

Hey, thanks so much ... I have to say feeling this bizzare is definately disconcerting.

I'm glad I'm not on my own tho, I called NHS24 and they were useless, it seems breathing issues and rashes are a 'call NHS24' thing but running round your living room screaming at the top of your lungs because thats the only way to get rid of all the energy I have (hyperthetically) is more of a... no advice situ.

Utter madness but it does get easier.

    Keep smiling smile

Hi, I have been on Citalopram for the last 3 weeks and also experienced these side affects but they have now subsided and I feel much better. Got worse initially but by week-end it was as though someone turned a light switch on. Reading about others experiences helped me through this rough patch. Keep going, it is well worth it. Good luck. :D

Ok so I'm a week in now and there is less pinging off the walls... not that sitting down and concentrating is working for me yet.

Nausia has officially kicked in and I think i've been surviving on 4/5 hours sleep a night for the last 7 days. I'm utterly exchaused!

At this rate i'm going to turn into a more attractive female looking 'Tim Nice but Dim'

Hope you guys are doing ok x

yes! I started taking it this morning and within an hour i had the biggest panic attack i've ever experienced! my heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest and my legs felt like they were walking through porridge then within the next hour i slowed right down then started getting flashing lights at the sides of my eyes like i was having a migraine, i'm starting to feel a little manic now -hence the lack of full stops! i hope it gets better.

    Hi mr/mrs no full stops....

How are you getting on now? have things settled down a bit? I hope so.

Drop me a line if you are getting any more weird side effects and we can compare notes.

Hi serendipity, how are you feeling now?? Medication should have kicked in and side effects subsiding. Hope you are well. I am now back at work and consentration levels are coming back (much to my bosses delight).

hi! i'm in my 3rd week now and things seem to have stabilised, the nausea has subsided and i'm getting used to the tiredness...i am feeling quite paranoid though and i am avoiding people and social situations which is not really like me seeing as i cant stand to be alone! have you experienced any paranoia? i'm a bit worried as i feel like my friends are avoiding me or are freezing me out, it could of course all be in my head...

oh yeah and whenever i drink the next day i am incredibly dizzy, is that normal?

the teeth grinding is driving me mad though, i wake up and my fillings are aching and i'm also very short tempered and impatient, everything no matter how trivial is stressing me out and i feel like i'm constantly on the defense...that again could just be me though or extreme pmt! (period 3 weeks late too -hurrah)

i keep having weird dreams about babies (that turn into puppies), miscarriages, feotuses and abortions, i am an elaborate dreamer at the best of times but these seem very dark and consistant.

whadaya think? am i going crazy?

Hi cake#1, no dont think your going crazy, paronoia could just be part of your derpression where you think things are happening. I too experienced the not wanting to socialise and lost interestwith everything around me. Another couple of weeks on the meds should sort that out for you hopefully. You could be right with the PMT and short fuse. Am no Doctor, but think being late could be a result of your over-all condition.

    Hope you feel better soon.
