Hello I packed loads due to other peoples advice but didn't use half of it.I only used the sore throat spray once, took quite a lot of sanitary towels but hardly bled afterwards.I took loads of magazines but was too nosy to concentrate on reading too much.I did take a TV guide.A small mirror was hardy.Didn't like peppermint tea so had chewy mints instead.Took several snacks as the food was horrible.Packed tissues but the hospital supplied them.Baby wipes are handy.Never had a shower in hospital always a good wash so I sent the shower gel and shampoo back home. The lockers are not big and you need quite a bit of room for your meal tray on the table over the bed.I had sweets etc in plastic containers so they stacked and took less room up.I had a couple of those small squash bottles.I also had a word search book and a notebook and pen.Don't take a lot of money.

    Any other questions please ask

Do u think I should take jammies. I know I'll have a catheter in but that's to be removed the following day along with the packing. I'm really not keen on Nighties. I feel more like myself with jammies x

      Hi,

I didn't really want nightdresses as I always wear pj's at home but I did buy some.I ended up taking my gown off after the drain and catheter were removed and wearing a hospital nightdress because I never got the rest of my things until that evening. The hospital nightdresses were not that bad.I felt the nightdresses were more comfortable and cooler.I have even worn them at home.I am amazed at the big knickers aswell that everyone advised me to buy. They are so comfortable,I love them.

Ill definately get myself some mints. And i do like peppermint tea. I'm just more worried about being home. My husband has a brain injury and had more surgery in Feb. So he's still healing too and he's getting himself all worked up about the surgery next week. I've done the shopping online and it'll be delivered when I get home from hospital. Thankfully I have a great relationship with my mother in law and she's going to be helping me xx

I know that feeling.I bought a load of cans of soup as i thought i wouldn"t feel like eating much for a few days.Even though i work in a supermarket 5 min drive away we buy from different supermarkets, some being about 10 miles away.I didn't think that i would be going back to them for about a month so i also stocked up a lot.We are going back out tomorrow to them.If i send my Dad shoping on his own he would buy the wrong things.(bless him)My appetite is still good but i wish that i can say the same about my bowels.I am going out to lunch today with a work

colleague and i might even have a glass or 2 of wine today.Haven't had any alcohol in about 3weeks now

      Hi Teresa,

You raised a very good question for Catlady and some of us others who are going in.

Is there a certain diet we need to stick to since our insides are so delicate?

I've been taking notes on what to bring.

I hope today is a good day for you smile

    Hi Catlady

You will need a towel (hospital towels are always rough), Sanitary pads, hospital ones are like bricks, oil of peppermint (2 drops in a glass of water 3 times a day) for the gas pain, throat spray (throats get sore from the tube), lip balm, something comfortable to wear, and comfy shoes for when you get up.  Phone and charger, book or ebook to read.  Hope this helps.  Small change in case you want to buy something from the hospital shop.

    Love

Thanks honey. Where did u get the peppermint oil? I've only been able to get peppermint oil capsules but they are horrible to take x

I got mine from Amazon, they were about £4, free postage and came within two days.  I started taking them in the hospital as soon as I came back from recovery.  Took them over the next 3 days and I had no gas pain whatsoever.  Actually I have had no pain from the op either, how lucky is that!

Hope all goes well for you, will be thinking of you.  Let us know how you get on.

      Love
