Non Op Leg - Top of my leg is numb since op

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi, I am almost 3 weeks post LTHR and since my op my non operated leg has been completely numb between my knee and hip. I am getting used to the numbness during the day but at night it often wakes me feeling like my leg is on fire. Moving the skin by rubbing it makes the pain (and it is pain) worse.

I have not seen anyone else mention anything like this on the non op leg.

I had a spinal block epidural for the op.

My concern after 3 weeks is will this go away or do I have it forever which would be a nightmare.

Anyone had a similar problem?

Hi John. Sorry to hear about your pain. I would ring the hospital or speak to the physio department to get answers to your questions.

I can only speculate might be related to epidural or referred pain from spine

Hope it eases soon. A lot of pains I had early on have gone now I am 11weeks post op so keep hope it will go.

3 weeks is early after hip replacement, but I would also contact your surgeon and if your not satisfied with his/her answer, then go to a neurologist and get a nerve test. It doesn't take long and is relatively easy. Prior to surgery, I was waking with shooting pains in my legs, almost like a charlie horse, and my internist put me on magnesium oxide. Your's does not sound similar and befoe trying anything, it's always best to speak to your doctor. Have you been able to do any walking?.

Good luck with your continued recovery.

Hi Georgette, yes i am walking well and pushing it a little more each day, I am at least 1.5 miles a day plus all my exercises. My new hip seems to be working well just the numbness in my other leg.

Hi John. I have numbness in my operated leg since revision LTHR. It sounds like a response to your spinal. The nerve will probably get back to normal but it may take some months. Three weeks is still early. You likely have internal swelling still too. Best to make your dr aware though so they can watch it. You are walking a lot for such a short time after surgery. Keep up the good work!

Yes, I have had similar problems and now after 4 months it is much better. I had left hip a year ago January 2018 and right hip September 2018. I was diagnosed with cysts on my bones so this will feel like a burning sensation and I asked if I had a blood clot but was told no. Sense I had the last hip surgery that burning has diminished a lot but I still feel a little lump underneath the skin on right thigh near groin area. It does burn when I press it and was told not to do that as it only makes it worse. I pray you will feel better as we all heal differently and none of us has the same symptoms.
