Nose bleeds

Three weeks after THR .

Was wondering if anyone else has had nose bleeds . Im assuming it because of the blood thinning medication. They started this week I had two over last four days . Only lasted a short time .

I will mention it to the nurse on Thursday while getting the dressing changed but I find your answers very reassuring on here as you have experienced things first hand

Thank you

I would agree that is probably a side effect of the anticoagulation treatment and that it needs mentioning to the nurse on Thursday . However if they become more frequent or longer I would see a medical professional earlier than that.

    Hi Wendy,

I had one nose bleed about 2 weeks after my hip op. Also whenever I blew my nose there would be blood in it . I mentioned it to the nurse when she checked my wound and she didnt seem unduly concerned . She said to see my GP if it continued or got worse. It stopped after a couple of weeks. Probably to do with the anti- clotting meds.

    Wendy,

Nose bleeds are normally the first side effect mentioned with any anti coagulant. At least you will be off them soon, I was put on fragmin for 28 days.

so sorry your feeling so bad . It is quite a shock to the system especially having to depend on other people. I dont think anyone can warn you of how helpless you feel . Im sure it will be so worth it in the long term. Onwards and Upwards . Take care

i agree wendy ! it was the hardest thing iver ever done in my life … ive been lucky enough to have had my mum to help me and my partner has been wanderfull , but the emotional side has been hard for me , not being able to get out on my own amd like you said relying on someone else for shopping housework etc is difficult but it will be worth it and im hoping to go back to work in 4 weeks time (hopefully)

Yes I agree the mental emotional side of this surgery is real. I am taking the three months off work to recover. Hopefully I will still have a job after.

It is probably the thinners. Why is your dressing still one after three weeks? My dressing was removed in 7 days.

Mine was not removed for two weeks and I then had to have another one as it was still bleeding.

my staples were taken out a bit late this time (2 weeks) and the skin started to grow over them s it was painfull , i took the dressimg off the next day and ita been fine ever since

I did have my dressing removed after two weeks last Friday but was still a bit weepy . So nurse said to have it changed twice again this week so Thurdays the second one . luckily the wound was glued so no staples or stitches to be removed .

My staples were not taken out till week 3. Dressing off the next day. It looks fine now.

Had dressing removed the wound is fine but have blisters from the dressing . Has anyone else experienced this . If so how did you prevent infection . Nurse just said use vaseline but when i used it once for dry lips it brought me out in blisters.

      any suggestions please
