Not written on boards for a while ,but i do read all your stuff..Ive found it very interesting and a little scary ..and sometimes a little funny !!

Im down to my last 3 weeks before right thr..and am now at the point where the pain seems to have intensified enormously very quickly ..believe it or not i teach pilates and yoga so am pretty fit and flexible..but now am really struggling especially getting back into my car when the pain going down my r thigh is making me yelp like a dog .also my right buttock is agony ..really i just want to rant (a little ) and see if this is what is normal ..wishing all us hippies the best ,especially those in pain and disheartened...keep going there is a huge wall of people behind you wishing you well  gx

PS..my hubby (bless him) suggested i'd be better with a rubber hip cos i cant sit still (except in yoga ) for two minutes ...going to suggest this to the surgeon ...namaste Gail xredface

Oh my gosh yes!  I went in to see an ortho doc in July because the pain in my knee had been getting worse and my Primary doc wanted to make sure there wasn't an alignment issue or something else going on.  It wasn't horrible at that point, but had been getting worse over the last 10 years or so.  I went in, and after an x-ray was told that my hip was actually the problem. You can see very clearly that my right hip is bone on bone.  I was shocked to say the least.  Never had pain in my hip.  But ok, figured I'd have the surgery next year since it really wasn't unbearable by any means.  Doctor said - I've seen people come in like you and they are doing ok, but they go downhill very quickly so to be sure not to hold myself to that timeframe if I feel I want to go sooner.  I really didn't think it would happen, but for the last month the pain has spread to my lower back and rear end.  That pain is so much more intolerable than my knee pain.  I thought maybe it was somewhat in my head because he said that I may go downhill quickly, but it sounds like you are having the same issue.  I guess if nothing else, I can say that it does seem to be normal at least. I wish you the best of luck with your THR. I go on 10/19 to get my surgery date.  I am so ready at this point.

It must be horrible to have bad knees on top of bad hips!  I know I walk with a weird gate to compensate for my hip.  You poor thing!  I'm sending good thoughts your way!  Hope the knees do get better after the THR!

Hi Gail - this sounds so familiar and for both hips! I had my 2nd thr 2 weeks ago and I can say unequivocally

That it was worth it. It isn't all roses, but the bone on bone pain is gone and pain now is clearly due to the healing going on.

Post my 1st hip after walking a while there was a whole readjustment process that took place as joints realigned to better posture and gait. It is quite a resettling process but knees started felling much better over time (even with my 2nd hip complaining badly along the way). So I expect there will be more of this later on in this 2nd recovery, but it is really, really good to be on the mend.

If you hace access to a pool or hydrotherapy clinic, I highly recommend it. The weightlessness and support of the water really helps. Re siting - well ... no magic answer for that and sitting is hard during the first few weeks after surgery too - a bit of grin and bear needed I am afraid.

    Good luck,

    L

Thankyou Linda, glad things going well for you ,i'm already doing pre op stretches and plan to hit the pool as soon as i can post op ..

I'm expecting pain in rear (already have that ) and been using cushions etc ...all the best for your future recovery gx

Hi Gail - hit the pool now! It will help relax your muscles (hint : several therapeutic pools use warm saltwater which is the absolute best).

      Good luck.

For me the most wonderful thing about this operation was when someone said to me the other day "You are walking so much better than you were a year ago, you used to really struggle to get across the office.".  I had to agree, being free of that OA pain is absolutely wonderful.

Hi Gail, I had right THR just over a year ago. My surgeon said to me you have two choices but really only one. He said you can stay as you are and the pain will get a lot worse very quickly or you can have a hip replacement. So really there's only one choice. I had fallen heavily on my right side 2yrs previously and OA just went into overdrive. I thought it was to do with torn cartilage till I had that removed. I had probs afterwards but never regret it and people can't believe I have a replacement. Good luck x

    namaste Gail,

Amazing, isn't it ?  but yeah, unfortunately this can happen -

I agree with previous comments and have the same experience -

right hip bad , bone-on-bone , left hip very mild OA - had R THR surgery - at 6 weeks post-op Left hip showed bone-on-bone -- cartilage was gone ...

2nd THR performed 6 monthas after 1 st one ... Pain gone ...

great that you are so flexible - but doesn;t do much for bad joints though -

what kind of approach are you having?

please come back here and keep us posted okay>

warm welcome to this hippies forum !!!

    big warm hug

That sounds very familiar!  The last two weeks before I had the surgery were the worst. The pain really ramped up. I was so happy to go in to the hospital when it came to it. Not even scared any more just couldn't wait to have it done!  That was three and a half months ago. I am walking normally again. Back to work as a community O.T!  Still have some pain and tenderness. Working on my range of movement. Nearly back to normal.

Wishing you all the very best.

    Sending healing Fairy Dust. 🌟??💫

Other hip seems to be playing up now though!
