Hello

Over the last year I’ve been struggling with my bowls I get severe stomach cramps and really bad back pain only thing I can compare it it to is like In labour. Then I go to the toilet And have really bad loose bowels, over the last thre months it’s gotten worse where I’m in severe pain, I’ve done a food diary  it can’t see any triggers I’m having so much pain and loose bowels, is this ibs? Any advice would be great full on reallt struggling now no energy and can’t eat

Thank you

Hi Catherine I'd say you've got ibs, the symptoms fit. Head to your doctors and ask for help. You need advice and may be some tests and a specialist diet? Let them suggest what you do it's their job after all. Good luck some are better than others.

I’m really struggling with eating and drinking I’ve lost half a stone in a week! I go sick with the sever pain I get and can barely stand up when I get a flare up! Thisflare yp has been lasting over a week now is that normal? I’ve been thinking of going to the drs but didn’t want to waste there time

Certainly sounds like ibs but if you haven’t seen a doctor about it then that really should be a top priority for you. I suffer with loose stools and pain often, and can’t always pinpoint any reason for it. I take Buscapan for the cramps and Imodium for the diarrhoea. They really help.  Also I’ve found cutting down on diary has really helped

Sounds like IBS.  Persevere with the food diary and try the Fodmap diet. Do you have any stress?  Stress can aggravate IBS and can cause it.  Have you had a firm diagnosis of IBS from your doctor?

No haven’t been to the dr yet wanted to ask around before going there! How long would a flare up like last ? This has been my worst one yet if it is ibs, pain and feeling sick and loose bowels.

The length of flare ups vary for everyone.  They be anything from hours, days, weeks or months.  My first flare up,lasted three snd a half months.  The symptoms you describe sound very like IBS.  I have had symptoms like that.

Not sure I would too easily accept IBS as a diagnosis. I was wrongly diagnosed with it years ago. I actually have gastritis caused by inflammation. No food triggers as such. Comes in flares and related to an auto immune disorder. I would want a proper diagnosis. All too often IBS is said to be the issue when there can be other underlying reasons.

Hi Margaret, I agree sometimes these doctors can get things wrong. I thought I had something dreadful wrong too. I have been ill for 3 weeks now with the last bout of ibs that flared up. I now have viral laryngitis on top and a scan on the 22nd, oh joy! Ibs can be dreadful and do a lot of damage. Think back to how long this has gone on for, whether you've been stressed or other things you can rule out 1st. I hope you get the answers you want.

Hi Sam. I got my answer 13 years ago when I was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder. Stress doesn't cause my stomach issue at all. I don't suffer from strrss.

I was diagnosed with IBS but don't have it. It is sometimes used as a cover all by doctors when they don't know the underlying cause. Often they don't bother looking for it but just write it off ad IBS. These symptoms are often caused by an underlying condition as they were with me. It took me a long time to get a proper diagnosis. Only then were they able to treat it properly.

I hope your scan finds some answers for you.
