hiya, I am 4 weeks (on Monday) post op for THR and doing great, started physio this week and now walking with 1 crutch outside ans walking unaided/using furniture in the house however, this morning Ive woken up with awful sciatica type pain through operated hip side. Shoots straight down my bum and hip into my thigh and it hurts - lots! so annoying to be back on medication when Ive hardly needed it. lets hope these mid term aches are just that and that they move on quickly! hope you are all healing well x

Hi MrsHoppy,
I was still using two crutches at four weeks when out on daily walk and around the shops. Maybe it is best not to try and rush walking without support too soon, it must put more pressure on the operated side while healing is still taking place.

its interesting how much the advice differs from all the physios etc. I think I walk fine with 1 crutch and feel confident with that though physio wants me off it altogether by time I go back on the 14th. I blame the unaided/furniture walking (done at physios advice) for the sciatica problem as I feel as tho I am waddling like a duck! have gone back to 1 crutch in the house also and it feels better today. extra exercises given by physio were extensive so think ive overdone it a bit. I need to cool my jets a bit I think which does my nut in 😅

I am amazed at some of the advice given out by 'professionals' I wonder how many have had a THR or TKR because they do not seem to understand the problems that can arise from rushing to walk without support. Only you know when you are ready to go down to one crutch, then none.

You would have thought that professionals would learn from their patients the various problems, perhaps they just don't listen!

Exactly Ptolemy, due to my husband having made several visits to the hospital during 2018, I have become disillusioned by the knowledge they possess. Since the medical profession are only allowed to ask questions generated on a computer screen, thinking seems outlawed. You are only as good as your teacher therefore if your teacher was bad, education deteriorates incredibly quickly.
