numbness in scar

Hi, I'm now 19 days post op. Clips are out and scar is healing. There is still a lot of bruising which I would expect. There is also still swelling in a couple of places under the scar. In one area it just feels tender and swollen, but in another it feels tender and a bit numb as if there was still some anaesthetic. This is bothering me. Has any one else had this sensation?

    Hi Anne!

I am 6 weeks post op and my scar is still like that. It's healed nicely but there is still tenderness and numbness.

I believe this is quite normal because of all the muscle layers they had to cut through during the surgery.

Just report any redness or seepage to your doctor.

If it makes you feel any better, call your doctor to ease your mind.

Thanks miele. It's not seeping and doesn't look particulary red. I just thought the numbness was a bit odd. Now I know someone else has the same I'm not so worried!

    Hi Anne,

I'm just over three months now, scar has healed but there is numbness I assume which is due to the muscle layers being cut through but nothing to worry about unless u suffer excruciating pain and the like.

Keep it up and you'll feel better in no time.

thanks everyone - it's marvellous to have found this site - there is so much that you find out which is not told to you in the hospital!

Same here Anne - 8 + weeks post op - the numb- and tenderness beneath the scar is more present now than in the beginning - and sometimes the area around is itching - when i scratch the skin there I canlt feel anything ... weird .. but then I have a 60 year old scar that still feels numb ....
