Hi there,
Let me start by saying that I know from current experience what you're going through. I wish I could give you advice to help you deal with your symptoms, but I can't. Good advice really depends on your circumstances, like other medication, the amount of time you have been on it, your dosage, etc. All I can do is share my current journey in the hope that it helps you in any way.
For the last few years I have been on, as they call it, California Rocket Fuel. It's a combination of two kinds of antidepressants, one SSRI and one NSRI. I was prescribed this because none of the other single drug strategies worked (and trust me, I've been through the hole list). Initially it was great and it really was powerful. It has kept me stable and symptom free for a long time.
Over the last few weeks I felt something was wrong. As I could not get a consultation with my Psychiatrist, I decided to visit my GP, who added Voldaxon to the mix. Last week I had a meeting with my Psychiatrist and we discussed the situation. His immediate response was to get me off the Voldaxon and increase my mirtazipine, which I refused (tiredness, weight gain, etc). So after a long discussion we agreed that I would discontinue mirtazipine cold turkey and, once out of my system, increase Valdoxan.
Which takes me to your question. I took a few days off work because I had a pretty good idea (from research) how bad it would be. And it was bad. No sleep, flu-like symptoms, dizziness, headaches, etc. Horrible. I don't know how it feels to detox from an illicit drug, but stopping Mirtazipine is probably up there. It takes about 40 hours to get out of your system completely. So my body is now without it.
Again, I'm not a Dr, so don't take this as advice. But I had a prescription of Diazepam to deal with immediate anxiety and similar feelings. On day 3 I did take it and it helped me. I drank more water than I ever did in a single day. I didn't sleep at night and was awake for 48 hours straight but on the 3rd day my body told me to get rest and I had a good night sleep (might have been the Diazepam though!). I took extra time out to do relaxation exercises, which didn't work for me but might for you.
Anyway, I don't know if the above is of any help. But if you need to bridge the gap to your next appointment with your Psychiatrist, I suggest talking to your Dr and see if he can help you with something like Diazepam to bridge the gap.
Let me know how you go. Happy to share my experience in the hope it will help you.
Vince
