Old eyes, new lenses - symfony versus monofocal

You have a great discussion on lense choices, but it seems all the participants are young.  How about older eyes.  I'm 72, no eye damage, currently wear trifocals.

    Hi Alison:

Symfony lenses, to the best of my knowledge, are not limited in any way by age per se.

But your doctor is the best person to ask about how age might determine your choice of lenses.

I'm about your age and I love my Symfony lenses thus far (about 3 months since they were placed), but your circumstances may be different than mine.

    Every good wish to you!

My doc offered me Symfony or monofocal. I'm concerned a bout the problems with Symfony and the cost.

Thus far my Symfony lenses are infinitely better than the natural lenses they replaced.  I love them.

Upfront the Symfony lenses are probably more expensive than monofocal lenses.

Amortized daily over ten years, given the clear advantages Symfony has over monofocal, for me at least, the cost difference was negligible.

Did your doctor carefully go over the pros & cons of both types of lenses with you?

If I were you I would stick with non-toric monofocals set for distance. I got that and can see perfectly without glasses at all distances, except that I need reading glasses for tiny print or for extended reading. That is the usual outcome for most people who get the standard monofocals set for distance that all insurance companies pay for in full.

You're welcome alison and good luck (and I'm over 55, so I'm not all that young either!).
