Oligoclonal band

Ive been having similar to MS for about almost two years now.  I have some spots on my brain but they say they are not characteristic with MS.  I had a spinal tap and the test for MS showed I had 3 Oligoclonal bands. One neurologist said that Im not suppose to have even one in my spinal fluid another one said if I had 4 or more it would be MS. Im really at my witts end. sad  Also they say I may have a demyelenating disease but unknown which one because I also have failed balance tests and VAP tests.  Has anyone had a low amount of bands and still had it?

A problem, when moving towards a diagnosis of MS, is that most often, we (I was diagnosed in 2004) have relapsing, remitting MS, to begin with. When we are in remission, there is some recovery that occurs, between relapses, this can cause false negative results as we're being diagnosed, so it can be an uphill struggle for many of us. Keep a written record of ALL symptoms, tests, meds, results... Everything. It can be handy when you go to medical appointments. Good luck xx.

You're welcome, MS is notoriously difficult to diagnose, if possible, have someone with you at med. consultations, a second set of ears can pick up lots more information. I recommend the UK MS society site and forum for support and information, even if you aren't diagnosed... Most of us have been in 'limboland' at one time. xx
