Only Lustral Sertraline works for me, I can't get it though?

Hi, I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder over ten years ago. I was prescribed Sertraline by the consulant and for the last 9.5 years I have always been given the Lustral brand. Over the last six months I have received another brand which does not work for me. I am feeling anxious again and my mood swings are now huge, but in the most I feel depressed and drowsy.

I have been to the doctor and they told me that they cannot prescribe a particular brand for me and that I should take whatever I am given.

I am at risk of losing my job soon if I don't get back on to Lustral, they work for me.

Can anyone help me, is there someone I can ask to prescribe Lustral only?

Hi Andrew. Maybe you could try contacting the manufacturer to see where they supply in your area?

    Dear Andrew

The person that you need to be talking to is not your GP. It is not in his gift to specify the manufacturer.

I recommend that first thing in the morning you go to your regular chemist and ask to speak to the Pharmacist on duty. Chemists are the specialists in medicines and in fact, their training to qualify to practice takes longer than it does for a Doctor.

I take Sertraline every day and have had different brands including Lustral on last months prescription.

Don't fall for the "It's the same active ingredient" argument. I assure you on good authority it is not that simple, and I totally accept that Lustral is what works for you.

I wish you well. If the Pharmacist is a professional, he will understand, and furthermore, many chemists order in a specific brand and keep it on one side for specific patients like yourself.

    Best wishes buddy.
