I was so afraid of needing to take opiates after this surgery but am now pleasantly surprised! I only took the Oxys for 2 days. The main reason for stopping on my own was the constipation and fear of becoming dependent on them. I have managed successfully with just taking Indomethacin (which is a NSAID, much stronger than Ibuprofen) and Extra Strength Tylenol, both 3 times a day. I am 7 days PostOp and ready to start slowly on the treadmill today. Sleeping is surprisingly easy. The only complaint I have is some sporadic burning nerve pain on the surface of my thigh when my glute/butt muscle is moved in a certain way. This pain is short-lived but somewhat frequent. I'm hoping it goes away on it's own soon!

Hi Jennifer
I left hospital with a small bottle of Morphine, Gabapentin, Tinzaparen injections and instructed to continue taking paracetamol and codeine which I was on pre op. The Morphine lasted a week and Gabapentin 10 days which helped so much. I am only now down to taking the paracetamol and codeine at night or after the gym as needed. If the nerve pain is unbearable, get tour doctor to write you up for something for a few days at least.
