Operation Tomorrow

Hi Everyone

Well it is my op tomorrow!rolleyes  Everyone here on my retirement complex keeps asking me if I am nervous about tomorrow, I keep saying my head has not got that far yet!  I am fixated on giving myself the injection at 6 p.m. tonight, If I can manage that then I can cope with anything (hopefully)! lol Hubby is on standby to do the injection if I can't - trouble is his poor hands shake something awful, razz he! he! good incentive to make me do it, I hope!

Just like to wish you all a Very Happy Easter and thanks for all your help while I have had the 'long wait' for the op.

Love

      Hi Jo

Many thanks for your good wishes.

I really want this op to work so I am really going to keep to the straight and narrow however frustrating it might be.

The residents on my retirement complex have been telling me off all week for dashing about spring cleaning etc but my answer is "I will be doing absolutely nothing but walking for however long it takes!"

      Hi Teresa

Many thanks for your good wishes.  Wishing you lots of luck for your op next Tuesday.  I will let you know any helpful tips I pick up along the way.  The one thing my surgeon keeps telling me is to be as calm as possible during the days leading up to the op (I know he is asking the impossible! but it is supposed to help with the healing process!) but I have been doing the meditation videos on YouTube and they are so relaxing he! he! even Rosie my Shih Tzu lays on my yoga mat and drifts off!

I'll let you know how I get on, and let me know how you get on.   See you on the other side.

      Hi Clair

Many thanks for your good wishes.  I will be thinking of you tomorrow (when I am conscious!) Wishing you all the best for your op, just think how wonderful it will be to be all fixed and fighting fit!

Try and have some supper, you need something inside you to help the healing tomorrow.  He! he! I am the opposite when nervous, I have just had such a pile of veg on my plate, thought it might help with the toilet problems to come! redface

Let me know how you get on.

I feel that I am packing everything but the kitchen sink.I don't know what the  hospital would supply if need be.It might of been your list that I read to give me all the tips. The only problem is that the locker by your bed is not big and easy to get to bearing inmind that you won't be able to bend down.

The hospital didn't supply anything.  To be honest, I didn t use half what I took with me.  Make sure you've some wet wipes, lip salve, knickers and pads.  Then really just your nightwear and slippers and toiletries.  Good luck.  It will soon be over and you ll be on the recovery road x

Don't worry I have got the BIG granny knickers for comfort.I am worried about the pads.I don't really want to buy the thick Kotex ones but I am worried about how much I will bleed afterwards.I have the peppermint tea bags, the constipation pills( might wait till I go home before I start these as there will probably only be one toilet per bay.The sexy nighties are ready(normally wear pyjamas)I have snacks, magazines, notebook and pen.I don't like drinking water so I have got a couple of those tiny squash bottles which are so light to carry. We have posh TV's and phones in our hospital.Every bed gas one and you buy a card but I don't know if you can use ear phones instead of the great big head phones.I have even got my TV guide and I gave marked off stone programmes that I want to watch.Hiw organised am I?

      Take care

I didn t bleed that much in the beginning.  Just used some supermarket own stick on towels and they were fine.  The bowel goes to sleep for a couple of days so be prepared for that.those TV s are so expensive.  Ours was ten pounds a day!!  I used my I pad and had a TV app on it.

Teresa, I struggling to think what to pack i have started so a few tips would be good, i have the obvious, nighties, slippers, dressing gown, biggish nickers, pads, toiletries. I dont think the hospital want me to take it all in on the day of the op, only the dressing gown and slippers my husband has to bring in the rest when he comes to visit.

Let me know if you have any tips on what would come in handy.

      Take care

Wipes to freshen up,mirror, dry shampoo, throat spray(some people say they have a  tube put down their throat which leaves their throat sore afterwards) You don't have much room to dry a towel so spare is necessary.Don't overfill your toiletry bag as you won't be bake to carry it.Things like liquid shampoo and shower gel won't be used straight away. Most hospitals don't allow hair dryers etc.Peppermint tea is good for the relief of wind.Chewing gum is good as well but I am not keen on that so I have got some chewy mints.I have got small bottles of lemonade, savoury biscuits and cereal bars.(hospital food isn't great)We have just had a M&S open at our hospital.Make sure that you have phone numbers and email addresses.Don't take much money or valuables.

      Hi Claire

Many thanks for your good wishes.  I shall try and do you proud.  I love the 'glammed up' part.  I have the technology (shame about the wrinkles!) packed, he! he! as long as I can get to my case, it is hot pink and Ian took it round to the car this evening oh it did suit him!  He now thinks I am off for a girlie weekend having seen what is in it!  All the different sections are labelled in a plastic bag for easy access, just hope it works!

Still I am on a 'high' at the moment having given myself the injection, quite an achievement from a 'cowardly custard'.  cool

Well my beautiful role model have a really good Easter, I will let you know how I get on.

      Love

      Hi Claire

Ah but it is a pretty sight, you came through the other side, no prettier picture than that especially to your loved ones.  razz

He! he! I hate to think what pictures Ian will take of me, I took pictures of him after his heart surgery, so it could be 'get his own back time!'

Hi Teresa I was surprised how little you actually needed in hospital. My i phone headphones fitted the tv so you should be ok. Couple of nighties it does get hot in hospital, wash stuff, dry shampoo, I took some cooling mist spray too that helped keep me cool. I used bodyform long towels as I hate the bricks the hospital give you....I only bled for a day now day 4. Some boiled sweets are a good idea too.....hand cream too

      Hope this helps a bit
