    Hi

I have pain and stiffness at front inners of both knees, most of my arthritis is bilateral so always involves both sides. I’ve tried knee elasticated protectors and they don’t work. Medication barely touches arthritic pain to be honest. I have moderate arthritis in both, diagnosed in 2015.

Ii found a knee brace a great support before a knee replacemant. Used one for about  5 years.-so devoted in fact that I found I had gone to  bed in it one night!! The vulcan pull on one suited me. These have the option of a plastic insert along the side to give extra support but this is removable anyway. They are washable as they can get quite warm. I would avoid the wrap around sort as the built in wire strengthener lies in the centre back of the knee and make the leg quite sore behind the knee bend. I replaced my Vulcans over the years and found the sizes were coming up small. Obviously the y have to be tight but not impossible to pull on. THe Vulcans have a hole in the front to allow room for the knee to flex. Use this to put the fingers in when pulling up the brace.

Symptoms- very painful when weight bearing especially going up stairs or when using extreme range of movement e.g. crouching, cracking noises with movement. Burning pain when sitting still that demands you to  move to relieve it.
