ovarian cyst found and blood test came back high.

Hi everyone.

Please can anyone help.

6 weeks ago I went into hospital and was told I had a cyst on my left ovary , which was about 4cm. I have recently been back to my doctors and had some blood tests done and waiting for a repeat scan. My ca125 has come back high, and I have got to go and

see a gynecologist a week monday. I am 44 years old, I was sterilised 2 years ago. I am so worried. I lost both my parents to cancer.

I have pain in my left side all of the time, could this be because of the cyst?

Hi Michelle thank you for your reply. Dont know what the reading was. And did not say what type of cyst. I had to request the follow up scan because the hospital had done nothing about it. I know it is more then likely nothing to worry about. Take care.

I will let you know my results. Xx

Hi Tracy, I can relate to what you are going through as I am 45 and I've got a complex ovarian cyst and am waiting to see the gyn this week to get more lab tests back.  All lab work so far has been normal.  Have not had the CA125 but have read that it is unreliable.  Hopefully for both of us, all will be well, but like you, I'm worried, it's hard not to be!  Let us know how you're doing.  Sending warm regards your way.

    Take care,

    Elizabeth

I guess it could be cancer but most likely I would not think that. I had a 7cm cyst removed in August along with both tubes and both ovaries and a d&c. My doctor said it could be cancerous so let's get it out. I also had the ca125 which is so stupid to even have. I have not once known anyone who's ca 125 was elevated and actually had cancer. I believe this test is so in accurate that is should not even be used as it has so many false results. My doctor gave me 2 to 3 months to see if it would go away on its own which it did not so out it came . I had side pain, lower back pain, pain after sitting or standing for any length of time and bloating. I have never felt better since getting that thing out. All done laparoscopically and the surgery was a breeze.

See a Gynecologist/Oncologist right away. This is an obgyn cancer specialist. Since your ca125 level was elevated and you have a family history of cancer you want to be under the care of a specialist. Most likely the cyst will need to be removed and this type of doctor is specialized to diagnose and remove the cyst so, that if it turns out it is cancerous this doctor knows exactly what to do. A regular obgyn is not as knowlegable in treating cancer as an obgyn oncologist is.

Thank you for your reply. I have got hospital on monday. I found out that my blood results were 140. The doctor said the bloods could be raised because of the cyst. I will definitely mention about obgyn oncologist.

      Kind regards.

Hi Tracy, just checking on how you're doing and hope that things go well for you on Monday.  I know it is a scary time but feel confident that the gynecologist will know what needs to be done.  Take care and hope you can relax some this weekend.
