hi all im new to this forum, let me tell you a bit, 3 years ago i was diagnosed with depression and was put on 20mg citarolpram because i was being bullied at my work place (a school) after 2 years i started to wean of the antidepressants as i had a good academic year following a bad one.In sept 14 i started in another new class with a young teacher and within 12 weeks i had been bullied humiliated stripped of all my confidence and i was back on cit, 20mg then 30mg then 40mg, ive had over 20 weeks of therapy and gone on to venlafaxine 75mg 150mg now on 225, my doctor wasnt happy with progress so refered me to a phyciatrist had the appointment 2 1/2 hours i totally went to peices, to end a long story he said i had P T S D, While i had been babbling on to the dr i mentioned something about what happened with a teacher when i was younger and this somehow connected to what the teacher i worked for had done to me therefore causing PTSD,  depression anxiety. I didnt know this could happen has anyone else had a delay of 50 years before remembering something bad and having it triggered.

Hi welcome to this forum! Considering I'm only 20 years old I would not say 50 years but you can absolutely have triggers after that many years. PTSD does not always start as soon as the event has occurred, but can even take up to 6 months to 2 years without any symptoms of PTSD. One of the ways PTSD can be treated is with EMDR, (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), which is usually done in therapy. It helps to reprocess and connect memory networks in the brain, making those horrible event/events not seem so scary anymore. Being bullied is dramatic, especially to a young kid, so no wonder why people who are victims of being bullied have PTSD from it. Even though you are older, being bullied can still trigger those same feelings as when you were younger. Its just about overcoming what had happened to you and why it was so dramatic at the time. Years later, people have triggers and they don't know why or when they will be triggered. It's due to the unprocessed memories from a previous event that probably was dramatic for them at one point in time in their life.

I for instance did not get diagnosed with PTSD until a few years after the events. I have more then one event that causes my triggers but the reason I went to the doctor was when I lost my full ride scholarship in Miami Florida for volleyball. I broke my ankle during pre season and was bullied by the team. The coaches and players were making threats towards me, calling me names, telling me they were going to beat me up, stole a statue off campus and put my name on it in front of my dorm room door hoping to get me in trouble. I was so numb at this point in my life, I didn't develop symptoms of PTSD until 1 year after. I started having nightmares, panic attacks every day, afraid to leave the house, flashbacks of memories from childhood, and etc...

      HI Lauren

PTSD can come out later in life and these bullies have a lot to answer for and the coaches but the problems are theirs and not yours because they needed an easy target and you did not react as you had never been taught how to stand up for yourself.

I wish you would not let this follow you into adult life. You do what makes you happy. My voluntary work helps me as the customers are lovely and I haven not had any problems with them since I started two months ago.

I also did a computer course and got a diploma.

What I'm saying is that stuff like that raises your self esteem.

      Best of luck sweetheart
