Pain

I know this is probably the first thing everyone asks about but I'm in horrible pain. I got diagnosed about 2 days ago but had symptoms for about the last week. How long does the first outbreak last?. Should I ask for time off of work?. I walk A LOT at my job and I can bearly get out of bed now. I'm a single parent and I hate my daughter has to see me like this. I hate myself for getting this. I'm just scared, nervous, and sick. So I guess I'm just looking for advice. How to manage the pain andhow to go pee without screaming. I already go in a tub of water but that still hurts bad. Anyways if anyone what's to give me advice or just friendship that would be awsome.

Ok, first thing is deffo take a few days off and get treatment otherwise it will last weeks. secondly, take hot baths with normal table salt and nothing else, dont even wash your hair or use soap. if you need to pee you can either lean right forwards on the loo which I found really helped avoid the sores, or, run a half bath and squat in it to pee which dilutes the urine before it touches the sores. I went through it for the first time in January and am possibly going through a second but you need to get treated otherwise it's going to be a long hard time. smile

Hey my symptoms came up on Thursday and have been to my local gu today to be diagnosed , it's my first outbreak and really concerned with the pain, have you been given the cream to numb the area before you wee ? I would be interested in sharing our experiences , how long does the pain last for in the first outbreak?

Are you referring to the burning when urinating? If so it lasts the whole outbreak until the sores have dried. If the groin pain it lasts a few days, try a few stretches to help the muscles out.

I was diagnosed a week ago today is the first day I can pee without screaming. Take your Valtrex 500mg 2 twice a day. Use a sports bottle and douse your self while peeing. Also use the expensive cream there are coupons on line to help out actually preparation h cream helped out with sores by the anus. I feel your pain and it sucks!! Take ibuprophen for pain.

The ibroprofen is a really good suggestion however the cream is really expensive, even in the UK. And the coupons are only available to certain people. I couldn't even get my treatment in the NHS.

Of course you can continue to use soap and shampoo when you wash(!), but you might want to avoid strong, heavily scented soaps just down there for now. The general advice is to soak your bits (not necessarily whole body) in Epsom salts, not regular salt. It helps offer relief and serves to dry out the sores and speed healing, just don't over do the soaks.

Pouring water down below while peeing helps, and so does drinking a lot of water. Diluted urine burns much less, believe me. This is especially true if your pain is coming from inside like a UTI. You can take paracetamol or ibuprofen for general pain relief, or apply topical lidocaine for local pain relief.

A first outbreak should start going away after 2 weeks. You should be especially better by 3 weeks or thereabouts. Recurrences, should you get them, are nothing like first outbreaks. Much milder, shorter, etc. Good luck!
