Pain after 5 months post op.

Hi. I went back to full time work this week after having a total hysterectomy,A&Prepair and a tvt in April. I've had a good straight forward recovery.

On the whole I have been fine very tired on evenings. A little sore on tues night but fine rest of week until Friday at end of work day (I work in a school with special needs children) I was tidying the classroom up and I got a sudden pain on left lower side of abdomen. I had been bending forward and as I straightened up the pain came. It felt like when you stretch a scab and it tears a bit and since it feels tender to touch like it's bruised. I've never had this kind of pain even after op and concerned about what it may be. The pain increases if I bend forward and then straighten up. Has anyone else had anything similar. I worried I've done damage.

Hello Fi I was wondering how you'd coped this week. It's difficult to say what if any damage you've done but I think it's unlikely. Your muscles and tendons in that area will still be a little weak after the surgery and it sounds as though you could have pulled one if them because you describe the pain as if something is bruised. You are going to need to rest Fi......sorry because I know you've just gone back to work. See how it is on Monday and if you're still worried see your GP. Please be careful, no lifting this weekend or anything else strenuous x

Thanks matron. I'm not doing anything this weekend. I really don't want to have to go back on sick leave so know I have to be careful. So frustrating coz I had off longer than suggested already. I am definitely going to get Drs appt if like this on mon. My class team have said they will make sure I do less next week. Even though I didn't feel like id overdone it. Yea I was tired. My back was bothering more than anything as we have 8out of 10 kids in nappies so back aches from leaning over changing bed but that is off list next week. Just feel guilty that I'm back but not pulling my weight. May have to speak to head again. But thanks for your advice again. Xx

Fi, I feel exactly the same about not pulling weight etc. I've gone back to school this week after an unsuccessful a@p repair. I've been aching in groin area and still have quite a sizeable prolapse. I've told them I've been struggling with pain etc and they've told me not to do lifting, pulling etc but it's easier said than done when you work with little ones! Take care of yourself xx

      Hi Fi,

Glad to hear you are back at work but sorry to hear that you may have overstretched things a little.

It is very difficult protecting a repair especially when we feel so fit and well.

It is so easy to do something we shouldn't without thinking.

Hope you have your feet up and resting plenty, it takes a little while for the body to ajust again to being back at work.

Take care and keep up the pelvic floor exercises!

      Phyllis x💖

Try a nice warm bath today and tomorrow and if it's muscular then it should help. You have to remember even though you've been off work a long time this week in school has been busy and you've used muscles you haven't used for a long time. Keep in touch with us xx

Hi Caroline. I haven't done much lifting. Only moving chairs kids climb onto changing bed to be changed so no too bad. But one of them fell over in yard and she held my hands and pulled herself up using me so not sure if that has contributed. I'm in such a lot of pain. More than my blooming op. Can't bend forward without the pain. Many work places done realise how major the op and recovery is to be honest don't think I did myself. Make sure you take it easy too. Xx

I totally agree matron. I may try a hot water bottle and see if that helps whilst sitting on sofa. I can't take ibuprofen so just taking paracetamol. I was wondering if it could be where I had the tvt as they attach that to the pubic bone don't they? Or where they stitch my prolapse up to the ligaments? I don't know, all sorts is going through my mind. I'm getting myself upset about if I have to go back on sick.

My daughter (15) is running round after me as hubby is at work. 😊 Xx

Thanks Phyllis I'm still doing the exercise as it doesn't hurt me when I do them. You're right you feel great. Do something and then body reminds us to back off!!! So frustrating. My emotions are in a tight turmoil today.

Thank you for your kind words.

      Fi. Xx

Try not to worry and let your lovely daughter spoil you. I think it probably is to do with the TVT but it's very unlikely you have caused any permanent damage. If the pain subsides gradually each day then you know it is going to be ok.

    Hi Fi,

?Im so sorry to hear this, you must be very fed up. See if resting over the weekend helps and if not, do go and see your GP. I know it's hard when you have only just gone back to work, but your health is the most important thing here.

?All the best and hope things improve hun,

    ?Love Sue x

Thank you sue. If I've learnt something over this recovery is that I have to listen to my body and respect it telling me to rest. You're totally right that we have to think of our health over work. Xx
