Pain from hell

[size=9:effadd2032][/size:effadd2032] My shingles started 8 days ago although I didn't know it. I woke with a pain from my spine round my rib cage and into lower stomach area on the left side. It felt like I had been burnt and continuously knifed in the stomach. I thought I had a trapped nerve as I had felt a 'tweak' in my neck the previous night in bed. Any movement was intensely painful - walking, turning, bending, stretching, getting up or sitting down (and still is). 4 days later I could stand it no longer and visited the Clinic (in Spain). I had 3 spots but didn't mention them specifically although the doctor would have seen them while feeling my stomach. I was given a prescription for a digestive problem. Next day it was much worse with more spots so I went back. He immediately diagnosed Herpes Zoster and I was given another prescription - for Aciclovir tablets and gel (more like a cream) - 35 euros worth! I had to go back today and buy a whole new packet as there are only 25 tablets in a packet and he had prescribed 30! so I will have 20 left over! Last night was the worst so far and I didn't know where to put myself. I can only lie on my right side or back and it feels as if I have a huge spiked metal ball in my intestines on the left. Like others, I feel washed out and with no energy. Hopefully the lesion blisters will stop coming in a few days. Then they will all have to burst of course.......... fingers crossed they don't get infected. :wah:

(Note: prior to the Shingles, I had a throat virus/cough, which hadn't properly gone).

Reading your post, I felt like you were describing my symptoms exactly.

Like you, I had had a cough / sore throat for about a month before the shingles started.

My God... the pain is excruciating.

I can't sleep... every position I try is agony.

My Dr gave me some anti viral tablets but she wasn't confident they would work as I didn't see her until I had had the virus for over 72 hours.

I spoke to a friend today and she had shingles in the scalp a few years ago.

The pain was so intense that even if the wind blew her hair a fraction, the pain was unimaginable.

Yes, me too, it exactly describes what I had, and have now. In August I had a very bad pain in my back and going down to what I thought was my intestines. The pain was unbearable and eventually I had to go to accident and emergency. I felt so bad and could not walk and my husband had to push me in wheelchair. They examinex me and said that there was nothing wrong, and gave me painkillers. I was quite disappointed in their diagnosis as. I knew that there was something wrong. I went home and the pain was still there. There were no blisters or spots. After suffering this pain I went to my gp who them diagnosed an irritated nerve and advised me to exercise, have me a sheet of exercises to do. It did not really help, but the pain. Eased a little. I went on holiday and the pain got better. However, on return from holiday, the pain as now moved to just Above my hip bone, it was like electric shocks every two minutes, very painful indeed. On Sunday I noticed a cluster of blisters and made an appointment to see my gp, who, yes you've guessed, diagnosed me with shingles, I was relieved in a way as I knew that I had this from the beginning but no one would listen. I now have a corse of anti. Oral medicatiom and painkillers. It is now 4th day. Pain still here but manageable, blisters now itch and getting redder, but I know that I have the right treatment, so I should see results in 2 or 3 weeks. Don't let doctors do you off with other diagnosis, I you think it is shingles tell them. Don't wish this pain on anyone!
