Pain whenever I lay down on my back

I need help.  I can't be the only one with this condition.  My pain is mostly in the left side of my face, my left shoulder and my left arm. It is a very dull stabbing/aching pain.  The trigger for my pain is when I lay down on my back.  I feel pain when I first lay down.  I awake in the morning feeling like I need a root canal on the left upper side.  I have extracted three permanent molars trying to relieve the pain.  This is not a joke!  Please help!

It sounds like there is something out of alignment in your back, neck, or shoulder.

It might be worth seeing a chiropractor. A first appointment might be free. Ask around for recommendation in your area.

I was seen by 7 doctors, which included 2 trips to hospital as my headaches had changed from the usual migraine and the pain was much, much worse. None of them spotted a problem with my neck. I was just given morphine and amatryptiline.

Chiropractor spotted problem in 5 minutes, treated me for about 6 weeks. I'm now pain and med free. If I do get an aching neck I know how to put it right myself.

    good luck.

I have heard parts of your story from several others, and parts are straight from my own. Part of your problem may be bruxism, or unwittingly clenching your teeth at night. The pain can be about the worst in the world--obviously! You've had teeth pulled in an effort to stop the pain. Others have done the same. I suggest you see a dentist, a very good dentist, who specializes in TMJD or temporomandibular joint disorder. Your bite is probably misaligned, you are in pain, and you clench your jaw (feel the muscles on the sides of your jaw and temples to see if they hurt). Now look in the mirror at yourself sideways: do you stand with your head perfectly aligned over your neck and shoulders, or do you carry your head slightly forward? If so, this put a tremendous strain on the neck (your head is as heavy as a bowling ball!), your neck is connected to your shoulders, and your shoulders to your back. My pain is on the right side of my head, face, neck, shoulder, upper back, and travels down my right arm into my hand. I have seen countless specialists, but they all want to treat just a part of me at a time. That is where someone like a chiropractor, massage therapist who does bodywork, and that TMJ specialist come together. A night guard that was made for my mouth and teeth cured a great deal of my agony in about 2 weeks. But look up TMJ on the computer, and take some of its advice. And don't let anyone pull any more teeth because that can cause an even greater imbalance in your bite. Also, try to relax and chill out. Part of this problem is due to stress and anxiety. You have a terrible problem, but never lose your sense of humor. Things WILL get better. I hope I have helped. And remember to smile several times a day--that is good for many things that may ail a person.
