Hello Jane I am ten and a half months post op for a rectocle repair and am only just starting to get back to anything remotely like comfortable sex,the last gynae doc I saw said that these ops can shorten and narrow the vagina, therefore making sex very uncomfortable x Hope yours get sorted out soon, sounds like it is and not daft xx

    Jane,

I am 9 months post rectocele repair.  I had mesh inserted, too.  Not to discourage you but I still have painful sex - and the same complaint.  However, for the first 6 months I could not have sex at all, so we've had progress.  I did purchase a medical set of... well, I forgot what they're called but the doctor actually said to get a "dildo".  This is not helpful to you at all - I can't find the name of the company!  Anyway the set had progressively larger "instruments" - at first I could only use the smallest.  The way I was sewn up my perineum is still very tight and painful - I put a numbing cream (over the counter) there before we get started.  And then I ask my hubby not to penetrate too deeply.  I'm expecting it to get better - we've come a long way.

I did look up before my op about the mesh ... I didn't have that..but 10 yr ago I had the band through my groin to lift bladder oh my god that was painful I limped for so long ... I went to docs thinking my band had snapped ... but was told I had the prolapse of womb bladder and bowl unbeknown to me ... the only symptoms I worried about was incontinence. .. I feel amazingly free of all symptoms I had which seemed so normal for 53 "I thought" it's just the sex that bothers me ... but hopefully in time it will change .. I hope you feel better soon .. maybe iv been lucky it seems from all iv read I'm healing quickly .. X X

What numbing cream do you use Raesue? I'm nearly 11 months post rectocele repair now and it still bloody hurts, want to keep trying but just put off with the pain it causes. They are called glass dilators and are of varying sizes to apparently gradually stretch the vagina. The last gynae doc told me that these repairs shorten and narrow the vagina and anymore repairs can make it even worse....oh deep joy NOT

Hi! My husband & I have found coconut oil to be a fantastic lubricant. Good luck.
