Painkillers

I'm 8 weeks post TKR  I still get pain in my knee especially at night.

i rang my doctors this morning for a prescription for some stronger painkillers

the GP himself rang me back and said at 8 weeks I should no longer be having pain and if I was just to take paracetamol

I stated my case and reluctantly he agreed to write me a prescription.

has anyone else had this problem ?

jean -- i am also 8 weeks post op and there is NO WAY i could function without pain killers.  ok, not sure i need quite as many as i am presently taking, but i agree with my surgeon when he says that i can only work on improving my bend if i have no pain.  so i take them.  i just cannot understand these gp's and had to smile at oldfatguy's comment: "they seem to take it as a personal affront that you are hurting and that they might have caused it, lessening their reputation as a skilled practitioner"

in essence, stand up for your rights and kick up a major fuss until you get what you need to manage pain.  or change your gp if that is possible.  good luck smile

      Thanks Britta

I stuck up for my rights and told him I rang the surgery to save taking up an appointment time ...but if he would like to see me and assess me face to face I would willingly  go

then he said I will prescribe you the co codamol but there are side effects

i told him I have  taken them for my back pain when it gets unbearable so I'm well aware of that

Then low and behold he said he would send a prescription to the chemist

thank goodness I'm not the meek and mild type of person.

WAY TO GO, JEAN!! well done, i am also on co-codamol (or the swiss equivalent) and i have read they are very addictive. interestingly, the doctor never mentioned this. i do sometimes wonder about their professionality, surely they should at least make me aware of this? never mind, you go got what you need so congrats!!

Poor you - I think I would have slapped him!

I would definitely change your GP!

Luckily I have had no problems with my GP and have been (over the phone) keeping her updated with my progress and reviewing my medication and changing it to suit throughout my recovery. Great support from her but I know had I spoken to any of the other GPS at the surgery I don't think it would have been so!

Hope you are feeling a bit better and pain is under better control.

Hope you have a good day, Tracey
