Pancreatitis ?

Posted , 11 users are following.

i saw a Gastroenterologist/ Hepatologist today. he examined me and asked me lots of questions. Then he told me i had Chronic Pancreatitis and he was going to prescribe Creon enzyme therapy. i was glad to finally get an answer after three years and five other Gastroenterologists but im slightly confused as hes not doing any scans. Does he not need to do a scan to find out if it definetly is Pancreatitis and how bad it it?

What about Ultra Sound imaging or pancreas enzyme test

Mine was detected by Ultra sound scan and blood test. I got inflammation in stomach and greasy stool.

U shud go for ultra sound abdomen scan. 3 yrs is long period. My doctor says go scan in every 6 months to see the state of inflammation and other changes in abdomen.

To get a scan done i would need to pay for it as dont have insurance. My NHS GP refused to send me to see a consultant who would have dealt with this for free.

That's awful! This is from info on the NHS page about GP services.

'If a GP is unsure about a diagnosis, they could be found negligent if they failed to refer you to a specialist and you suffered as a result of this. If you have not been referred for a second opinion and have suffered as a consequence, you may wish to complain'.

You shouldn't have to fund your own scan.

When i saw a specialist in January that was a second opinion. The one i saw in September had taken over as the original one was not available. My GP argued that i could not get a second opinion as the consultant had requested as i had already had a second opinion. Another GP had told me that the consultant could have made the referral but he didnt want to know. I still say my GP is at fault as he did nothing to help and now i have been left like this.

Im not under any hospital as i dont have a consultant. The private consultant i saw at Ross Hall said he didnt need to see me again so i am being left to deal with this on my own. The GPs are not much good as they just said if the Creon works we will put it on a repeat prescription for you. The thing is i have all these other symptoms but i dont know if they are normal or not. I have been having chills for months and my blood pressure drops. I saw that chills can be associated with Acute Pancreatitis but mines would be Chronic. I also read somewhere that it could indicate an infection but i cant find any information about this. I did see someone at Gartnavel in January and April and then i saw someone at the RAH in Paisley in September.

I found the Creon really help with the bowel side of things. For the pain and constant nausea i actually consulted a Chinese Herbalist and have been taking herbal medication for 5 weeks and its been great. Its given me my appetite back and stopped the nausea. I was also receiving Acupuncture and that has greatly helped with the pain.

My tests were normal as well. I had a normal Faecal Elastase test but my consultant said some people have a normal test but have malabsorbtion.
