Partner found out she has HSV2

Hi All,

I am a 25 year old male and just recently (3 weeks ago) started dating a 22 year old female. We have had protected sex about 6 times (don't know exact number). After seeing each other for a few weeks, we both decided to get tested. My tests came back normal but she found out she had HSV-2. I know her igg test came back as 1.48. She does not have any idea how long she's had it, or where she got it. She's never had an outbreak.

I've scoured the internet about HSV-1 and HSV-2 for information and statistics. I've read pretty much everything, in fact I think I know more about herpes now than my own career industry. lol I was shocked to find out how many people actually have some form of herpes. As for right now, I have decided to abstain from sex with her, but continue to see her while we get to know each other better; we are both ok with this for at least a while. We both do truly like each other, and I see a strong potential for a long term relationship. I plan on getting tested again in a few weeks to see if I've contracted it from her (from my understanding, unlikely but possible), talk to my doctor and try to take a huge step back and assess the situation and relationship from there. I also have one older (and therefore likely wiser) female friend who I know has genital herpes (whether it's HSV-1 or 2 I am not sure yet) who I plan on talking to about this situation.

Of course she was very shaken from the situation and I've done what I could to comfort her.

I am looking for any advice and anecdotes about similar situations.

Thanks!

Hi,   Think you should be aware that even though she has HSV-2 does not mean she has it in the genitalia area.

I tested positive and it was on my arm.

That's interesting. I knew you could get HSV-2 in your mouth, but did not know you could get it on other parts of the body.

Is there a way to confirm where it actually is on the body?

How can you be sure that you just don't break out on your genitals either?

because you get outbreaks only where it has entered the body and the virus lives in the nerve roots and  the connecting junction of those nerve roots only.

You cannot transmit the infection to another part of your body after the initial infection occurs. If you have genital HSV II, you will not get HSV II at another site in your body. The body produces antibodies that protect other parts of your body from infection. However, there are cases where an individual has multiple site infections from the same virus. This is usually acquired at the time of the initial infection. For example, if an individual has oral and genital sex with an infected partner, they can acquire the infection at both sites because they are susceptible at that time.

Also if you do get outbreaks.   I found eating one large slice of pineapple every day helps enormously.

Wow really what a relief I’m stressing out right now so bad that I’ve spread it. I think I need to go for a nice float at the float tank. Stress is not good at all!
