Peeing after Rezum procedure

Posted , 6 users are following.

For those of you who had the procedure, had to self-catheterize for a few weeks, then resumed normal peeing, I'd like to know DETAILS of what happened during the last transition period fro just before you stopped having to catheterize until you were peeing fairly normally. My procedure was 65 days ago and I've been self-catheterizing since the Foley came out 4 days after the procedure. I am beginning to sense some very small changes now and wonder just what happens when transitioning from cath only to pee without cath. Thanks in advance.

First, there was a dribble, about half the time. Sometimes it would come, others not. Then, the dribble got more consistent, and there was an occasional short spray. A week or two after the dribble started, I had a couple of really good days, then it backslid, although not completely. I had a lot of urgency and off and on burning, so if I peed every 30-45 minutes, I was OK. From weeks 3-5 there was a lot of blood, then it pretty much was gone one day. I was like that from about week 4 til week 6. Around week 6 I went (out of town) for the weekend and realized that I hadn't had any pee issues and that I was actually better than before. From there it got even better.

I might have peed better earlier, had it not been for the urgency that had me going so often. Had I been able to hold more, more might have come out. My uro thought my bladder might have been temporarily shocked by the procedure and I took Myrbetriq for about 3 weeks. I improved while I took it, no way to know if the meds had anything to do with it.

Thanks, OB. Just what I wanted to know. Today, for the first time since the procedure, I felt like I could dribble something out. Rather than catheterize, I sat on the toilet for the longest time and did manage to squeeze some out. All day now I've been feeling a sense of urgency to pee every 30 minutes or so. When I sit down, I always get some out. I have avoided cathing all day and have peed a very little every 30-45 minutes. No way I'll sleep tonight if I continue this way, so I plan to cath at bed time. We'll see what happens. Thanks very much for your response.

I did the same thing (standing up though) because I really wanted to be done cathing. In retrospect, voiding what I could followed by cathing for a while longer would have been better. Good luck!
