Pelvic floor excercises

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have bought a book call Inside out by Michelle Kenway. she is a pelvic floor physio and she has a lot of info on her site that might be helpful to those like me who was ignorant to what a prolapse meant.

I get newsletters from her and allsorts of info to help with the depressive side of it, and all the question one wants to ask someone.

She advises on the excercises and loads other info. Its definately worth a look

I have seen this lady as well and have watched her on youtube doing her pelvic floor exercises. Glad you thought to share this Patricia to help others who could improve their condition with pelvic floor exercises. Hope others have a look as well to see if this is something that could help them as well. Good stuff Patricia.

That's very interesting Patricia but it's important that these exercises are performed correctly. In the UK a lot of physiotherapists are specially trained now in pelvic floor exercises. They mostly work alongside urogynaecologists who as you probably know have undertaken extra training on top of the qualification to be a gynaecologist. My urogynaecologist told me (when I was considering private physiotherapy) that I should find a specially trained physiotherapist otherwise I was wasting my money. I will ask her about this book. I'm sure it is excellent and I look forward to reading it. Thank you

Hi Matron.  Firstly I apologies for the spelling mistake I've just seen it. I totally agree with you. This lady is trained and from Australia. I first got the book before I found this forum as I didn't know where to go to find out if I was doing the excercises properly and I just wanted ladies to know that its out there. You can ask her questions which I have done and she send her newsletters i have just received one, its a pity I can't forward it on here.

When I was sent to the hospital by my gp there was no discussion about the excercises, I did tell the doctor i think I was doing them and he just replied "thats good not a lot of woman do them". My GP told me that I would be sent to a physio to be shown how to do the excercises and I wasn't. I go back to the hospital next week for the 3rd attempt of a pessary and I am going to ask if I can have an appt this time. If he doesn't I am now armed with the number of a private ladies physio and I will pay her if I have to. Perhaps Matron you could take a look at the website for Michelle and let us know what you think from a nurses point of view. Thank you

Hello. I intend to take a look. I'm impressed that you can contact the author and she responds! I have never known that before despite all the research I have done over the years. I know urogynaecologists because of my work and I'm sure they will be interested

Hi Matron I did try to send you the web site address to help you look but the moderator tells me the reply to you  is waiting to be moderated. I dont want to upset him as he has been so kind and I dont know yet how to send a private message

      Hi Patricia,

The link you included didn't work but we wouldn't allow it anyway as it is a commercial website. Users can find it by googling the name you quoted above or to send a Private Message click on the envelope under Matron's name. There is a link to the FAQs at the bottom of every page in the forums with more info on all of this.

PS I've corrected the typo in the title wink

      Regards,

      Alan
