period lasting 26 days

hi everyone, im new here and i was wondering if anyone has maybe experenced this? i had my 3rd c-section 6 months ago, since giving birth my periods have been totally normal and right on time. i started my most recent period 2 weeks early and it has been very heavy with large fist sized clots. im not soaking up a pad a hour though.....   every time i move i can feel the blood just gush ( I KNOW TMI )  also it feels like i have a barbed wire belt on.... this has been going on for 26 days. i am starting to get very tired and find it hard to sit at my desk and focus at work now. i have had blood work done, CT scans and ultra sounds done and cant find anything other then a cyst that they think was caused by the c section in my abdomin. it was not in any scans or ultra sounds before the section.

has anyone else gone through anything like this?

If you are bleeding that much particularly since you are passing such massive clots for no known reason, they should have given you medication to stop the bleeding by now. I think you need to make an emergency doctors appointment for today and see if they will stop the bleeding for you. I am very surprised they seem to have just left things going with clots that big. I doubt a cyst would cause fist sized clots. I presume they were able to confirm you weren't having a miscarriage of any description?

No miscarriage. Have not been active since having my son 6 months ago.

Ok hun well I am sorry this sounds awful. I would definitely speak to the GP to see if they can stop the bleeding for you. Also, have a look at your gums and pull down your lower eyelid, if they look pale you may have an iron deficiency, particularly if you are feeling tired too, it is common when you are loosing a lot of blood. It is important you keep drinking plenty of water too as this will help keep your blood pressure stable.

I hope they get this sorted for you soon honey I know how awful it is, I was soaking through about a pad an hour for three months after giving birth before I told my mum and she was so horrified she drove me to A&E where they prescribed some tablets that stopped the bleeding in just over a day, so getting to your GP is probably your best bet now and ask for something to control the bleeding. xxx It also might be worth going on the pill for a while so you are more in control of the bleeding. xx

I hope so darling. Let us know how you get on please? They may want to do some more tests but hopefully they will at least get the bleeding under control, I think that will help massively. It might be worth asking to have some more bloods done, specifically to check iron levels but see if they can do hormone levels too to see if that comes up with anything now.

Sometimes our bodies just do weird stuff but it would be great if you could get some answers. I was just told it was normal after giving birth (????) and that my body may have gotten confused and refused to stop which I absolutely don't believe but because I went on to have quite heavy periods after that (though no where near as long or as bad) I decided to go on the implant, and now I have no bleeding at all. However I did learn that all the women in my family on my mothers side tended to have nasty periods after giving birth so it could be genetic.

Whatever happens I wish you the best of luck, and I hope your ordeal will be over soon. And well done for being brave enough to post here, you never know it may just help someone else one day. x
