Persistent cough went away has now come back

Hi Everyone

I'am a 27 year old male never smoked but since last April have been bothered by persistent cough.

It started at the end of April 2018 and lasted until late November. My GP gave me loads of different antibiotics , nasal spray , anti reflux medication all to no avail. They tried everything then eventually sent me for a chest x-ray which came back clear. Was tested for asthma as well which I don't have. It finally went away in November after I got the winter flu jab. Unsure if this would have anything to do with the jab or if it was just a coincidence.

The strange thing with the cough is that it came on completely out of the blue , I did not have a cold or flu or anything then was unable to shift the cough , it just started then would not go away.

Another thing is that it seems to be a daytime only cough , cough all day then it starts to go away into the early evening then by night time it does not bother me at all , never kept awake by it. It is also better when lying down then starts again when I get up.

It came back a few weeks ago and is following the same pattern as before . I think I will leave it a few weeks yet before going back to GP to see if it goes away although that will probably be unlikely.

Has anyone here had a similar thing ?

Maybe an allergen causing it. For me (I have severe lung disease) it is dust and pollen, even on steroids which lessen it considerably I have an all day cough.

Yes I have been experiencing the same thing. Been going on for 2 years. I have had ALL the tests and taken multiple meds to no avail. I cough all day no matter where I am, and no matter what city, town or state I may be in. Pulmonary testing (twice) shows no asthma or bronchitis, xrays clear of chest and sinus, no allergies. Have taken prednisone, antibiotics, GERD meds, nasal sprays, cough syrup, antihistamines - you name it!! Have seen many types of Dr.'s. to no avail.

I did a food diary for 20 days to see if there is something related there that I could find.

I gave up coffee for 1 week and still coughing.

I do have a hypothyroidism but all doctors seem to agree that this should have nothing to do with the coughing. And that the med I am taking for the thyroid should not be creating this cough.

AND once I lay down I do not cough. I can sleep through the night without coughing. Coughing starts almost right after I am upright again.

I feel awkward in public as people think I am sick and out walking around with this horrendous cough.

I am a 67 year old healthy woman

I am reaching out here in hopes that someone had the same thing and can offer their thoughts.

    Thank you
