Please help me. My knee has destroyed me physically and emotionally

Hello,

i am in my 20s. I had an acl surgery in october 2015, and lysis of adhesion for arthrofibrosis plus manipulation in January 2016. At the second surgery, the surgeon was still not able to achieve full extension. I was missing 5 degrees. he could have done posterior capsular release but felt it was unnecessary b/c he thought it wasn't worth it just to get 5 more degrees.

Now, we are in April, and i am missing at least 10 degrees of extension, and my bending isn't perfect either. I cannot walk smoothly. My knee feels wrong with every step. walking for more than 10mins is almost impossible b/c my knee will hurt so much. even when walking around the house my knee feels wrong and bent.

What should i do? has anyone had a failed lysis of adhesions? has anyone had capsular release? i am feeling very depressed and im sobbing every night b/c i recently got a career job (and they're hard to find for recent graduates), but i may have to quit it if i get another surgery. Please, give me any advise, i want to have a normal life again

Sorry to hear about the faroboy.  You should be feeling alot better by April since you had surgery in october.  Something is probably not right.  I would recomend seeing other doctors getting multiple recomendations as to your problem.

You probably could need more work done.  In the meantime try to take some fish oil glucosamine Chron, collegen to help knee joint move more easily.  Also eat lots of ginger, tumeric and chili peppers to reduce inflamation/swelling. Ice after exercise.

I would also recomend buying a stationary bike or trying to start cycling 2-3 times a week. Make sure you can pedal really easy.  You want to pedal easy gear but move your legs fast.  This helps get more fluid around ACL and knee joint and will increase your comfort.   Try and do some knee exercises twice weekly as well.  Ice after exercise.  Be patient and when you can get the surgery done go for it.  Swimming and cycling great for knee problems.

Oh dear bless you ! You really are having a tough time. I dont understand what all your ops are but it sounds awful as to how much you have been through! Anyone who has suffered a tkr wil know how horrendous it all feels! Im 8 wks post op have got fluid or swollen tendon which is hindering me! Iv had the tears frequently and awful desperate feelings to! The thing is when something like this consumes you it takes over everything all your thoughts constantly!

I would say to you in my opinion and im no expert go back and back until you get answers! Either contact your surgeons secretary at his clinic and stress your concerns or your gp! Make sure you are doing your exercises as this really helps! This last wk iv noticed the strengthening ones are really helping to get my muscles supporting my knee! A lot of my pain was musculer and is easing a lot! The physio wil help! Are you having physio if not go to your gp who wil refer you! Im 49 which is youngish for my tkr but you are in your 20 s with your probs you need help and to get it sorted! Try to be strong and get the help! Be pushy if you have to ! I wish you well and all the luck in the world. Keep us posted this forum has helped me! X

Thanks debbie. Unfortunately, I am doing all the exercises on a regular basis. I will admit the range of motion after the arthrofibrosis surgery improved my extension by a few degrees, but still not good enough. My first surgery was due to an acl injury. I have problems with extension as well, but not as bad as my extension.

How is everything working out for you

    Faroboy,

i have not had the adhesion or capsular release, but sure sound like you need to see the doc again...or better yet...a second opinion.  So sorry y are having such issues.  Prayers for you to find the answers.

First of, your bend is nor everything. Are you in pain, do you take pain meds. Are you wearing a knee support.  What positive thing are you doing

hi danie here i 62 years old and a tkr one year ago and are so surprized that i am still alive today, why do i say so? because of what you described how you feel yes i also felt like that maybe worse or less but i felt that this is not the life i have envisaged for myself at this age after not beeing in a docters practice for fifty years. my specialist put me on nuzec and a few days after it started to work i think because suddenly it was not such a big issue anymore, if icould not sleep i wrote if the pain was bad i took meds and one extra incase it did not work lol . You had a different procedure is i had but it is still an massive invasion of your body so if you think that the time for healing is enough and there is still no release of the symptoms i ask you to please go for a second opinion, your career is important i know but so is the rest of your life, first get yourself well mentally and phisically and if your employer are willing to wait for you good if not i asure you that without a healthy body and mind you will not suceed in your career and the depression will get worse. Get that second opinion if you are not on depression meds ask your doc tell him all and take my word for it to come out of the deep black hole and see the light again you will be able to do all that you want to acomplish best wishes danie.
