Hello ladies. This is my first time posting on this forum. I am 41 years old and have been suffering with health anxiety for the last year. I have had all the test done ekgs echocardiogram chest xrays blood work thyroid checked other than a little anemia docs say I'm all good. I am around 4 days away from my period and I've been very anxious for the last 2 days. Symptoms that I have been having are

Racing heart

Heart Palps

Hot flashes

Insomnia

Racing thoughts that something terrible is wrong

crying for no reason

Very gassy and bloated heart burn

I'm most concerned about racing heart and palps. My question is this normal? can all this be linked to my period. I need help I feel lost and scared and I dont want to go to er but I'm also scared not to.. some one please help

I've had all of that plus a lot more that including dizziness and internal buzzing/vibration that is maddening. After the cardiologist told me for the 3rd time and an electrophysiologist told me once that it's not my heart...I quit worrying about it..

Since apparently nothing is wrong with me after seeing multiple doctors and specialists.. I just decided to live with it.

Hi Renee, Welcome! I too am 41. started up with this craziness over a year ago after stopping long term Birth control pills. I got heart palps in the beginning...went to ER and stayed in the hospital...checked in and out. all ok. I have family history as my dad died at 42 of a heart attack. That along with 100 other weird symptoms. Sounds like you are in the early phase of peri ...your periods will become irregular...chart all of them and your symptoms. That is very important now. You will probably have drs think you are too young...and blame anxiety alone. If you have already been checked out....It is your hormones waxing and waning. Because of that, your moods and symptoms will be all over the place! This forum is wonderful and you will get a lot of support on here!

Thank you yes I've heard the your to young from GP. But from researching I now know that I'm not. I'm starting to feel crazy and this forum is a blessing. I have an apt Friday with cardiologist for yearly exam so I will be bringing this up to her. The crazy thing is it seems like my heart rate is all over normally it's about 69_76 bpm the last 2 days it's been in the 80 and that's just sitting and when I feel a hot flash it really spikes its crazy. I guess my next apt will be with the gyno. I heard theres a test they can do to see if your starting meno. I've also had the buzzing this is all so crazy. Ty so much for your reply

Hi, My heart is always 70-90s just sitting calmly. I was getting a endoscopy last year and my heart shot up to 140, while sleeping. At one of my ER visits, I suggested menopause, and the younger nurse and resident dr laughed at me! WELL, an older nurse came later and we were chatting and she was like do you think this could be menopause starting?...I was like OMG... YES!!

I was on a beta blocker while in the hospital...but I stopped it because my BP runs low...so I felt dead. I have a heart rate app on my phone and I check it. Also bought a BP checker to keep at home to check my own " vitals" Really reduces the worry. OH! and my crazy chest pains ended up being GERD. Another peri treat! Don't let them tell you it is all anxiety! Best of luck to you!

HI Renee - Oh darlin sounds like you are starting on this exciting journey - once you are checked out, you can just repeat the mantra in your head..."I am healthy & this is just a process my body has to go thru" - For me whats really helped when i am having heart palps/flushing/hot flash & anxiety...i take a really big gulp of cold water, hold on to ice cubes (i have even been known to fill a zip lock bag of ice cubes & bring it to bed ) or put wet wash cloths in the freezer so when you have an episode a cold washcloth is ready - for me, the cold/icy zaps my body back into "normal" mode - i feel like i get the flushes daily, but the nighttime ones always accompany heart pals & head pulsating & anxiety...I HATE IT! Good Luck!

    Hi,

oh boy can i relate...i just turned 40 this Summer and my symptoms sound almost exactly like yours. My heart rate got up to 130 during one of my hot flashes (although mine are more like a dry burn). The main thing to remember is this will pass...just like one of the other lovely ladies said, its just a process your body needs to go through. This forum is a great place to give and receive support. HUGS

Hi Renee please try not to worry, I always have a racing heart my resting heart rate is always in the 80s and when im having a anxiety attack it goes upto 130, I have seen a cardiologist and had loads of tests and everything is ok, I know it is frightening and im hoping mine will settle down soon, just one of the many horrible things we have to endure through this menopause journey x

Hi Renee! Yes, since you've had it checked out and are otherwise healthy, I agree that your symptoms are panic attacks and anxiety. The heart palps are absolutely part of the package deal of a PA, I had them for many years. Next time you feel the anxiety, breathe deeply...that helps let go of the stress and it calms you down. When I got them, I "talked" my way out of them by focusing on good thoughts and deep breaths. They pass...Remember, they won't kill you. They are awful, I know. Millions of women suffer from anxiety and you are normal. This anxiety will pass. Hugs to you! -Kazjo

hey renee, im 41 and going thorough the exact same symptoms, ive also had everything checked and the only thing that was up was high was fsh - so guess its hormonal, our bodies are changing from being fertile to infertile - and this is its way of letting us know - nice!? have you had nausea and loss of appetite as well? these symptoms are chronic for me at the moment, and im just taking it day by day as things can change very quickly - guess this is what is meant by mood swings! its awful and im struggling, but there are lots of 41 year olds here going through the same c&@p so you're not alone - hopefully things will calm down soon for both of us x

Hi Karen. Yes I have loss of appetite but no nausea thank goodness. I have Ibs and gerd all happened in last 2 years. I'm so glad that I am not alone on this crazy journey

yes so glad for this forum, i wasnt expecting these symptoms until my 50s! i think we go through this when we stop being fertile and then go through similar when we stop having periods - around 50, and in between that it eases off a bit - that is what im hoping anyway! i try not to think too far ahead and take it day by day, the symptoms are so weird, chat to me anytime you need x
