Positive HSV-1 blood test, negative HSV-1&2 swab

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am having a vaginal rash with open sores. I had a blood test done and tested positive for hsv-1. The swab of the sores tested negative for hsv-1 and 2. I have tested negative for just about every other STD/STI. They don't know what else it could be and no medicine is helping. Awaiting my next appointment where a biopsy will be done. Just looking for some answers. File size is too big

just because you test positive for HSV1 doesnt mean you exactly have it, if those sores are not HSV (which they look like contact dermatitis) you probably dont have herpes, so if those swabs were neg, I wouldnt worry about it.

yeah the dr. had mentioned something about the possibility of a false positive test. so im hoping that's the case. i guess I'll find out for sure after the biopsy. if it is contact dermatitis, is it easy to treat? ive been having this rash on and off for about four months

Swab tests are not very dependable. Blood tests are much more definitive and accurate.
