Possible Sjogrens

Posted , 4 users are following.

I saw my doctor in 2010 complaining about sore lips. There were no lesions or visible sores so he couldn't offer any suggestions. My dentist referred me this year to a maxilofacial consultant and I had a lip biopsy. The result showed chronic inflamation and atrophy but couldn't positively confirm Sjogrens. I use Optive eye drops for my dry eyes I am awaiting blood test results. My sore and sticky lips dominate my days. i have tried all sorts of salves, ointments etc but now realise my problem is poor saliva production. I am using SST tablets, spraying Glandosane spray and chewing tons of gum. Has anyone any other pointers that could help please?.

Hi Martin. I'm on pastilles , sprays etc for my dry mouth and up to now nothing really works.  My voice is constantly hoarse , I had a camera up my nose that confirmed my voice box is so dry too !!

I've lost 3 teeth. I was devestated I kept asking the dentist what was up and for their advice and to be honest they didn't pick up on it and just kept shrugging their shoulders as they couldn't offer me any solution ,,,

I've always prided myself on my teeth

My only advice would be to sip water constantly ,,, I drink the volvic juiced all the time ,, using a straw ,,, helps keep any bacteria away from your teeth ,,

      Hope you are ok xx

      Hi

I saw the doc this morning and I am pleased to say that the blood test was ok so no Sjogrens!!!! Nothing has changed as far as the sore lips are concerned but I am sure it is a saliva production problem. The pastilles are probably the most useful for me and my GP has put me on repeat prescription for pastilles and SST tablets. It's a same that I can't get chewing gum on prescription as that would be helpful!!!

I think you really need to be referred to a Rheumatology Consultant for a definitive diagnosis. They can prescribe DMARDs to help control the condition.

Hi martin,I've had s.s,for some years now , I use just bottle water,or bottle water with lemon and lime favour, small sips, otherwise long sips take away what salvia you do make,I drink plenty of water in a day, I find it helps me,and use very small amount of pure olive oil, on my lips also attend the dentist four times a year to help keep my teethvin good shape, as for my eyes I bath them with hot fannal, and clean eye lashes with baby shampoo, a couple of drops in a bowl of fresh bottle water ,using a cotton bud to wipe along the lashes, with then use my eye drops, I use carmellose sodium, preservative, know how you feel mate , its not easy thing to deal with, hope all goes well for you.
