Possibly herpes?

Went to urgent care yesterday for a checkup because GYN appointment is not until next month. Showed the doctor along with the nurse down the there and the MD said that is definitely herpes sorry, and googled genital herpes on the phone and asked the nurse do you agree and the nurse said yes.

Anyway heres the story:

I usually shave down there then we had sex (i have been with the same guy for five years and both of us are in a monogamous relationship nobody is cheating) then the next day i had my period which lasted for five days. 2 days later (sunday) i started seeing one small painful to touch lump around my anal. Not painful when i dont touch it. I washed up and put neospirin around it. Next day (monday) it made it worse as it spread around vulva (left labia) very painful. I cleaned. Went to cvs bought miconazole external and internal cream. Everyday they would multiple to the point that theres a lot and hard for me to pee without being in pain because the urine would go to the blisters that some of them pop and be painful. I have spread my legs and stuff and lean forward so that it wont be painful when j pee.

Fastforward to friday when i went to the doctor saying that that is definitely herpes, i was lost in words. I was like cant u do swab or blood draw first? He said yea if you want to but thats herpes. I said i want to do both. So they said would take a week befor eit comes back but for the mean time start taking valtrex. I started taking that but it made it worse. I am on my 4th dose but making it worse. So is it herpes?

Well, it sounds like herpes and apparently looks like herpes and could be herpes (not impossible despite your relationship background), but best to wait for your swab results. That's the most important test in terms of accurate diagnosis at this stage. I trust it was an HSV type-specific swab. Valtrex not helping isn't necessarily a sign that it is or isn't herpes. You need to start the meds asap in order for it to have any real impact, and it sounds like you didn't. Still good to finish the whole course, however.

No i have been taking the meds, i have been compliant with it. Also taking vitamin c and lysine too. Not working 😩😩

The first outbreak, if it is in fact herpes, is hard to stop or minimise unless meds are taken at the very first onset of symptoms. Usually the outbreak just needs to run its course. Fyi, a lot of people report little change despite the meds and lysine is not clinically proven to do much against herpes. HSV researchers and experts no longer endorse it, but it's not bad to take either. Neither here nor there. It will be interesting to see how your swab comes back.

Swabs are usually cultures, so may take longer. The rest really depends on whether you went private or public. Always slower if public! Best thing is to prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. Not everything that looks and seems like herpes is herpes. One person on here recently had a doctor visually diagnose her with herpes, only for the swab to come back negative. In the meantime, try to keep the area clean and dry, and do whatever you can to minimise overthinking.

Thank you so much for being so kind. Yea, im so worried, depressed and overthinking. I hope it is not herpes. Not sure but i went urgent care told them if they can make the bloodwork result faster or something. I paid extra. I wish there is a kit online that you can buy to test yourself.

Unfortunately there aren't any home testing kits for herpes, and even if there were, I wouldn't trust them. Even the official lab tests for herpes are not without their issues! Let me know how your results come back. Good luck!

I called them today and told me for type 2 negative and for type 1 it was less than 0.9 so negative. That was for the culture. It has been for than a week now and the some of the sores are still there some are healing. So far the best news ive gotten in my entire life!!! smile

Culture results do not contain numbers, so those sound like your IgG antibody results, which you'd expect to be negative if a recent infection. Did the swab/culture specifically come back negative as well? If so, then that's the news to celebrate! Any idea what it is, though? What does your doctor think?
