Post Cataract - intermittent gold flashes/fuzzy vision at the end of the day

Hi all,

I had a Johnson and Johnson Monofocal lense via the NHS 13 days ago in my right eye. Prior to surgery i had Lasik some years ago and wasn't able to share what my prior prescription was before this . The doctor was only able to use three formulas to work out what Ds I needed. They decided on +20. my most recent prescription was -2.50 0.75 +2.25 also had an astigmatism as you can tell. when the Doctor talked about the astigmatism she said it was 1.4. slightly different to what was on my prescription.

Surgery was unremarkable and I was able to see much clearer the next day. However I've struggled with words, for example a road name plate or a car registration which I still see but usually double up just above the word. Reg plates are similar. I don't have the finite detail I thought I'd get. Probably, expecting way too much! I guessing my astigmatism needs correcting with glasses and then I will get the vision l'm after! Still, I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on my vision improving a bit more? My eye tends to get a bit uncomfortable as the day wears on. A bit sore, I often feel like rubbing it but I don't! As the day wears on my sight increasingly gets a little more off and less clear. much better in the morning after I wake. can see reasonably well. is the slight change in vision over the day normal. I have to put my glasses on to see better. Also I get gold coloured fleeting flashes in the lower bottom outside edge and a weird flickering everyone once in a while throughout the day. Normal healing process?

Going to thank you all for reading, l am having a follow up on Friday but would like some feedback to take with me for good measure.

Many thanks

Naomi

I have a residual astigmatism in my last eye of -0.75 D which gives my issues with a drop shadow to the lower right on text. It is not ideal but I still have pretty good close vision with this eye. No issues with flickering on this eye. On my first eye I do have some of those issues when there is a point source light off to my left at night - street lights would be a sure thing trigger. In the scheme of things I do not see it that often.

I get those gold flashes if it's mostly dark when I go into a certain room in my house: the light from a nearby room reflects off the edge of my IOL. Now that I know what it is, it's not bothersome.

As for your vision worsening throughout the day, that could be due to dry eye. Try some lubricating drops (Systane and Refresh are both good) and see if that improves things.

    Hi both,

Didn't think anyone responded! Thank you, my vision isn't the best. Reading isn't easy and is hard work. I can read although its a bit blurred slightly faded in places. Words still has shadows and my distance vision has got worse. Details of a face and sharpness not there now. really disappointed. wondered if the iol might of dislodged.

The best thing you could do at this point is visit an optometrist to have your eyes checked and get a new prescription. The prescription will tell you where you ended up for refraction. The optometrist should also be able to examine your eye with a slit lamp and determine if there are any issues with the location of the lens in the eye.
