Post Herpetic itching, and what not...

I'm at the end of my first or primary outbreak.. I've had extreme itching down there since the leasions have healed.. Is this common after an outbreak? Everything is so sensitive in that area! I wear scrubs to work and I feel like my groin area is chaffed or chaffing. I'm just still so uncomfortable.. What I really want to know is does all of this ever settle down? Will I ever feel normal again. I'm trying so hard not to get down about this but I just feel like it's never ever ending!😩 I scared myself into thinking it was another outbreak coming on so I took 2 valacyclovir today to start the 5 day cycle of 2x a day for outbreak. I don't even know what an outbreak coming on feels like because I sure as heck didn't feel my first outbreak coming on in the way I've read and been told I would feel an outbreak coming on. Would appreciate any experiences from your first outbreak and afterwards! Thank you..

The itching is normal! I went through hell! Scratching my butt in my sleep, rocking back and forth on chairs. It sucked. I'm pretty much at the end of my healing and the itching has stopped for the most part. In terms of scaring yourself about another outbreak. I've done the same. But I am on the Valacyclovir for the test of my life one a day. Idk if you're doing the same. Wishing you the best!

@NuMe - Did you finally get your results? It's been forever otherwise!! Depending on the type of test, my clinic's turnaround time is usually 1-3 days max!

Anyway, if definitely HSV (esp -2) and you are not in a discordant relationship or any relationship, you may wish to observe how your body handles it naturally in the first 6 months to a year, using the antiviral meds only for outbreaks.

For some people, they find they don't actually need daily meds, so just a suggestion. That's what I plan on doing, unless I end up in a relationship, but that's highly unlikely!

No I didn't! And I'm beginning to get p*ssed. Because it was an emergency I saw a GYN that's not my normal GYN. And clearly he died or something because it should never take this long. I sent him a message yesterday (no answer) and a message to my regular GYN today. So hopefully by tomorrow I have an answer. I keep thinking craziness like the results must be so crazy they're writing me a letter so they don't have to hear me go nuts. LOL

Lol! Well, hopefully you'll find out this week. The unnecessary waiting and not knowing for so long would do my head in. I'd probably march down to the clinic and demand my results!!

Everything should return to normal in time. It may not seem like it while you're in the midst of an outbreak, but you will start to feel normal down there again, itching included. Some symptoms and side effects may take longer to resolve, like the mild ache I have in my tailbone area, but the genital area should spring back relatively quickly.
