Post op (5 weeks)

Had my first check up and so far so good.  External stitches gone (didn't know I had any 😂wink internal stitches all still in place (72 days apparently before they go).

Im still not allowed to drive for another 3/4 weeks.  Only allowed to do light housework ( no lifting) and a little walking.  Will discuss at 3 month check about intercourse and doing a little more.

I know this is all normal and hopefully it will help the repair work, just thought I'd be able to drive by now.

I may be in the minority but the thought of waiting another 2 months to have intercourse is not good. I'm 40 and still after 24yrs find my husband irresistible 😂 So think this will be the hardest part of recovery.

Ive had company for the last few weeks but everybody is back to work/uni/college/school on Monday so think that's when I will start to become even more fed up.

Hope everybody is well x

Forgot to say he told me he had also put some stitches to put sides in? Not sure if that is just the norm with anterior and posterior repair?

Hi Emma, did you have mesh or only stitches?

I Had rectocele repair three weeks ago and had stitches only. I wonder if 3 months to have sex is the normal waiting time... I wasn't told anything about time without sex... that's new for me!

I was told 6 weeks, most people wait longer 8? Or they try and see how it goes.

Just stitches.  So possibly the norm to wait 3 months.  I wasn't told at the time and presumed it would be 6 weeks like when I had my abdominal hysterectomy but obviously not. ??

    Hi Emma,

Sounds like you are doing really well, and bring very sensible with regard to being careful.

Try a new hobby to keep you occupied over next few weeks, it will be spring before you know it.

I left the intercourse till later months too, bit uncomfortable to start but if does slacken off. Must have overstretched deeper tissues after going back to work and now have scar tissue which got worse the longer I was on my feet so really uncomfortable now. That (tends to be drier due to scar tissue and KYGEL only helps a little) coupled with hubby having problems of his own in that department not helping much.

Anyhow think it's good to at least have tried before 12 week check as it is a sign of how successful repair is! This is my 2nd repair, and both of us older.

Nearly 4 year ago had 1st repair and resumed intercourse around 12 weeks and while uncomfortable used KYGEL and each time we attempted it it got easier, so with regular use slackens off.

They have put me on Estriol to help thicken internal tissues (walls are thining) and aid repairs which also helps eliminate the discomfort of the scar tissue, but I'm sure if also heightens libido, which is not helpful when hubby had his own problems, 😅😅😅 I hate this getting old, I'd trade him in for younger model if I did not have my own problems, 😅😅😅.

    Take care,

    Phyl x💖

Hi Emma I'm 7 weeks post op and my kids and partner are all back at school and work now and I'm going stir crazy! There's only so much daytime telly a girl can watch so, to relieve my boredom until I go back to work I'm going down to a soup kitchen run in my area and helping out there. I don't do much but even just talking to the people using the service is amazing and stops me feeling so sorry for myself. I appreciate this isn't for everyone but just an idea?

As as for the other: I have been told no actual intercourse for 3 months which is up in Feb when I return to work. I too adore my partner and like I said I was told no INTERCOURSE, no one said anything about having a little playtime though 😜.

    brie X

I'm 3 1/2 weeks after posterior repair and it is difficult not being able to do much but I just want this to be a success! Good luck with your continuing recovery x

Glad to hear you are doing so well.

We are all different, just follow the instructions you were given. Don't drive if you were told not to as apart from anything else you may not be insured. I know it's boring but better to wait until your body has healed than risk doing further damage. Take care.

I won't drive as I am giving my body any help it needs to heal after going through hysterectomy last year I need to give myself time now as I want my life back x
