On 21st March I underwent the above surgery. I had a backslab and bandage and was non weight bearing for 3 weeks. I then went back for check X-ray and had an aircast boot given to wear. I had five incisions which healed well. My calf muscle is quite wasted, and has been for a while as ankle replacement failed (after 9 years of good service). The consultant told me I can just walk with the boot on as I am technically supported by air in the boot. Strictly non weight bearing when out of boot. I however am still using at least one crutch for support as it seems really quick to me. I know the nail, which extends a long way up my tibia, provides a lot of strength. Also the bone graft needs good blood supply to ensure it takes. Just wanted to share this really. I find my foot is a bit painful at the end of the day. Like the tendons underneath have been stretched.. Anyone got any comments or identify with me at all. X
