Post removal symptoms

One of my symptoms pre removal was nausea in mornings, scan showed stones, so had removal. No stomach pain.   Since removal i have had pretty constant waking with nausea.  It eases with anti nausea med then i can eat by teatime,  very careful keeping out fats, dairy, gluten.   Go to bed. During night seems ok but by about 5 to 6 am wake with horrendous nausea. No vomiting, have to take another anti nausea pill, and so it goes on.   Every now and again i get a day when i wake without it but in the main its there.   Is this something else as its been there before removal, or is it removal related.   I have anxiety too.  GP does not want to put me through unnecessary tests but i just dont know if i need a gallbladder expert or a gastroenterologist.

Hi Ann, I’m post removal too and also on meds for anxiety and I’m thoroughly convinced it’s the anxiety!

When I was first diagnosed with anxiety over 2 years ago my main symptom was nausea in the early hours of the morning. When I saw the Dr I said the only thing I could liken it to was morning sickness and mine used to last most of the day til teatime so I’m convinced it’s that as the more you worry the more you’re feeding the anxiety.

My thing I focus on is look forward and not back and try to focus on each day as it comes!

Does your Dr think it could be anxiety and are you on meds?

    Hope this helps x

Thank you for your reply.  It is heartening to know im not the only one having this problem. Yes I have anxiety tablets, i take one at bedtime and usually one in day.  This has been going on for some time now.  The morning nausea i expected to abate once gallbladder out but no. Dr gave me anti nausea med to take and i need it quite a few mornings on waking till i can manage some cereal.  I am careful what i eat but between the nausea and the anxiety i am a bit restricted on what i can do.  Depression can creep in if i dwell on it all but they tried to give me pills for that and they made things worse so they stopped them.

I, and my gp have not gone down the route of endoscopy as she thinks its anxiety based. I just dont know.

i try to let it settle then after lunch try to get out every day for walk with hubby or shopping etc.  Usually by teatime i eat then the whole thing starts again next day.  Yes, i try to take one day at a time but its hard.  Imhave lost interest in cooking so hubby does it. He also now does some housework as i just cant get the energy.

i do my best but the anxiety can be quite agitating i e if i have an appointment i just want to get idone quick, get there early, cant relax until evening some days.

what do yountake for anxiety? Does it work? And do you take anything for morning nausea?   Dr doesnt think its related to gallbladder which i suppose is good as i had it brforehand, but still would like it to go away.

Hi again, from what you have said you sound very similar to how I was!

I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression just after Xmas 2 years ago.

I had lots of symptoms, the nausea, not being able to get to sleep then waking like you with the nausea and also sleeping nearly all day when I could drop off because of the nausea, I was never actually sick. Also I would wake with shakiness too. My mood was really low and I would just keep crying. I’m of the menopause age too.

I was first given citolopram but couldn’t get on with them (although they work for others). Then my Dr switched me to escitalopram which I started on 5mg, then 10mg and then settled on 15mg.

I really don’t care if I stay on them forever as quality of life is so important.

I will add that it was about 3 months before they were completely working for me and it’s so hard as I wanted to give up but knew I had to be patient!

      What tablets are you on?

Also the way I knew the tablets were working was when I started waking up without the nausea and shakiness.

I don’t know your feelings on tablets but perhaps give them a go because the way I see it is if you had to take tablets for other things eg blood pressure you would. Hope I’m not offending you by saying this but like I said before my quality of life is so much better now, here if you need any more info and I know exactly how you feel x

You are very lucky you have found a medicine tomhelp.   I have been tried on more than eight over last couple of years and none have helped.  Psychiatrist even not sure what to do next.  I am very down about it all.  He says i seem to have more anxiety than depression. But really its both.  Its a very hard way to live

Anxiety is a digestive trigger also leaving large amounts of time between eating doesn't help nausea. Its not easy but you should see an improvement if make yourself eat regular but small meals.

My advice would be eat several times a day and a normal diet there should be no need to avoid foods.

    Best wishes

yes, i eat regularly small amounts, but not after teatime.  Tried having small supper at 9pm but made no difference to morning nausea.  Dr thinks anxiety could be the trigger, i am on meds for it one at betime and one in day,  sometimes need another.  Dr says its a very low dose but i dont like taking it but realise i need to and now i am probably dependent on it.  So really i dont know if its the chicken or the egg which came first.  Anxiety came straight on back of nausea at beginning, now cant get rid of either
