PPIs stop working?

Hi,

I'm still struggling with stomach/bowel problems for a few years. It all started with h pylori bug about 3 years ago but my stomach/bowels have not been the same since. I have been tested for everything that I can see with cameras up and down.

So I still get pains in my stomach and down the sides, sometimes too tender to touch and the pain sometimes is in my bladder region, oddly the pain is never in all of these places at once.

The only times I have relief was a) taking omeprazole and more recently Cimeditine which stopped the pain for a short while and b) glugging tesco heartburn and indigestion liquid with every meal.

My question is can the omeprazole and cimeditine give only temporary relief? My dr said this is impossible as they either work or they don't work so I'm perplexed.

Thanks in advance

John

Hi, have you tried high doses of full spectrum probiotics? and eating fermented foods, Do you cut out salt?, my wife suffers with reflux heartburn, which is a acid related problem but she started having more salt the pink sort and the heartburn improved considerably, PPIs seem to have a dubious reputation, have you cured the H pylori problem ?.

Hi john, you need to ask for alternative medication, there is more they can do. Go back to your doctors and ask for alternatives. I hope they help you.

No, the h pylori has been retested a few times and has come back negative. The acid reflux isnt the problem coming up, it's just the stomach/bowels pain so it's more pains going down than up if you see what i mean. I was wondering if PPI relief could be temporary, my gp says it works permanently and that my experience of them isn't correct. I've tried all manner of diet alterations!

Patients don’t always have the experience with their medication that doctors expect; this confuses them. If your meds are helping, even temporarily, keep taking them

I can't. The PPIs/reducers stop the pains for a while but then they start to cause the exact pain again which stops for a while again when I cease the PPIs/reducers again. Bizarre isn't it?

Maybe try milk to see if that soothes the pain any better.

    Thanks. What would milk do?

Milk soothes coats the stomach.  It is alkaline so it helps to neutralise any acid too.  When it reaches the stomach, it becomes a food.
