Hi Lynne2521, I can sympathize with you I'm about to have my 2nd ATHR on Monday morning. I made a great effort to stay calm and avoid un wanted stress/anxiety. It is all a process. I wish you the best. Stay calm.

It happened to me. I was scheduled for my new hip, went to the pre med (pre op) group and they said "too high" I have a history (4 year period) of high BP and have gone through 5 different meds that didn't help. I either had bad reactions or they did nothing. #6 PB med did nothing and my doctor sent me to a heart specialist. My heart is fine and a beta blocker was added. It certainly helped but it took a couple of months before the heart specialist was satisfied that my blood pressure was stable enough for the operation. Hurray, went for another pre op appointment.
Happy happy until I got to the anesthesiologist who couldn't believe I had been put on a beta blocker (maybe because I have asthma-I honestly can't remember other than it's listed as the #1 reason not to take that particular one?) he wanted me to stop it immediately and hoped that it would be in time. I stopped it in time, blood pressure remained good and am now 7 weeks post op.
Long story but . . . that's what happened to me.
It is a bummer when you get yourself psyched up for the big day and then they say no. Good luck I hope you can bring your blood pressure down so you can move on.

Not to me personally but to a good friend of mine. We were at the same pre op assessment. I had my op in January and hers kept being delayed. She finally had her op in April. They decided in the end that it was 'white coat syndrome '. I e everytime she had her blood pressure taken at the hospital it was too high. They gave her medication to try and get it down. In the end she bought herself a kit where she could test her own blood pressure at home. This proved to the hospital what the problem was and she was able to go ahead with the op. I hope this helps you.

hi lynne,
I have high BP for years and on medication -- in spite of meds. BP is still high -
It is very interesting how medicine is practiced in different countries -
I lived in Los Angeles for 35 years - first things they do when you have a doctor's appointment is Put you on the scale, take your temperature and take your blood pressure ... Here in the Netherlands they don't do any of that --- THR surgeries were done in Holland ... no issues with weight (too high) or blood pressure (too high) -
How high is your blood pressure ? Post-op my BP went down so much I thought I must be dead !!! (82/38) -
So sorry to hear that though -
Please let us know how it went at GP's office-
big warm hug

Despite being on meds my bp could sometimes be high. I took readings at home morning and night for 7 days and also had my monitor checked against the one at Dr surgery to show it was right. I took my readings to my pre-op. Funnily enough my bp was low after op so if this is normal you would think it being high before might help but hey I'm not medically minded. Try not to get too stressed about it and ensure you're relaxed when you go yo be tested. Hope it all works out for you and good luck with your op x

my diastolic one used to be very high (90 and up) and I was given medication for it --- over time the level came down to an acceptable 60, however systolic went sky high ... sadly, as vigilant as my doctor was in Los Angeles, here (in Holland) they are so not worried about it ...
Oh, and I have seen several doctors and had to make an appointment to have my blood pressure taken with PA ..
So I bought one too - make sure to be in a calm state of mind, right position and do both sides ...
angel blessings - you will be fine
