Hi,

Suffering acid reflux for over year and half, have been on ppi 20mg twice a day, don't really help much, lately I've been getting tenderness on right side with pinching pain under ribs, but more than that I'm very worried about upper back pain /pressure feeling I'm getting shortly after eating, it's very scary, I had Abdominal ultrasound done last week, all clear and bloods all clear, can anyone else relate to this

, I've read really scary stuff on Internet about long term use of ppi, just hope I haven't done irreparable damage. Any help/ advice would be gratefully received

I get that too but I have come to realize it's anxiety-related. I carry a lot of stress in my upper back and I figured out that is what's happening to me, so that may be what is happening to you too since you have anxiety about all of this. What freaks me out is I'll be okay laying down but when I get up I have to occasionally clear my throat and feel kind of weird. Does this happen with you?

      Hi Kim

Tks for replying, yes I seem fine laying down and this morning I woke with having to clear my throat, feel weird and not right a lot of the time, this back pain is really frightening, I get burning also in my chest on and off. How long have you been suffering, are you taking ppi

I have been going through this for a few weeks, but I am also in perimenopause and I have a low thyroid so I have a lot of other weird symptoms LOL

Horrible time for you, I've hit full blown menopause and am hoping some of this horridness is down to that, but have my doubts, I think my GP thinks I'm a total hypochondriac but this pain is very real, problem is stress and anxiety make reflux symptoms worse

Oh, my doctor thinks I'm crazy too. Having heart palpitations and anxiety because of the perimenopause and she actually asked me if I was bipolar lol and she has been my doctor for 10 years, so she should know something weird is going on with my hormones. I I'm beginning to think doctors are worthless. I'm going back to her on Tuesday and demanding she do a full blood workup on my female hormone levels, all of my vitamins to see if I have any deficiencies exedra

Stress can definitely cause physical pain 100%. Are you taking anything for it?

To be honest Kim I don't know what to take for it that won't enrage this reflux eve further, I remember being in the perimenopause and yes it is horrendous, I had weakness, heart flips, pain in every joint of my body, a fear of death all the time, a lot of it has passed but this reflux is I feel made worse by what ever symptoms I still have, hang in there you are not going mad, bit by bit things will improve,, I just wish there was a cure for reflux, have you considered surgery, I have a hernia and am thinking about it

Me too. Have had extreme tightness and pain encircling rib cage for two years and it's getting worse. I haven't been on PPIs long term. My feeling is that it's part of GORD and oesophageal problems although have not yet been able to get gastro to agree. I don't think it's the PPIs. I have more problematic side effects with Ranitidine. I think the answer is to use antacids on a short-term basis for crises but not constantly. (and I had the rib tightness before I'd had any antacids)
